It was a perfect opener for the Shows, although it is much dominated by the sound of the drummachine.

I have to disagree with "Erotic City" as an opener being hot. I thought "EC" was so mid-tempo. It's great when Prince either starts with a very propulsive or very instumental laden opener.Crap, did you see Destiny's Child's last tour, opening with "Independent Women"with all the flash, and dancing and FIRE? You cannot go wrong with hot women and fire.

EC was a little middling and the choreography was sloppy, with Cat (that woman wasn't very attractive), and Sheila E.It seemed more like a failed "Star Search" try-out.Sorry.

Housequake sizzles! But it was kind of weird to hear him launch right into a song from the last album right away, which kind of told me of the "Strength of SOTT" and the weakness of "Lovesexy", like :Lovesexy" was just an excuse to get right back on the road. He was still running on the fumes of the SOTT album and tour.In fact, although I have grown to appreciate "Lovesexy" over the years, I have to say the songs from that album don't work live.

A live video (2 videos actually) of the Lovesexy Tour, Dortmund. 1988.

All these years I've loved Prince and, literally, it was only in the last week that I discovered the correct running order of the 'Livesexy' videos!

Unfortunately, I wasn't 'into' Prince around the 'Lovesexy' era but always assumed that the live shows were in the same sequence as the videos. It was only when I was reading a P biography last week that I realised that 'Livesexy 2' was the opening set and 'Livesexy 1' was the second half confuse

Why were they presented in this order? Does anybody know? I think the show worked FAR better this way - 'Eye No' straight into 'Lovesexy', then 'Glam Slam' - KILLER introduction. I love 'Livesexy 2' but think it's a weaker opener IMO.

There seems to be some confusion here as to why the songs were sequenced the way they were for the concert and why the videos are presented second-half first.

The songs were suquenced that way to further the narrative of the show - VERY basically, pop star gets caught-up in fame, fortune, money but has an awakening, a redemption, and realises that God and love is more important. So, the first part of the show gets all the nasty songs, EC, HQ, Head, Dirty Mind, Bob George etc etc - I don't think it's anything to do with how Prince viewed the quality of each album, moreover, he uses his entire back-catalogue to tell a story.

The reason, I believe, the videos were released in that order, is because Prince was putting the more positive experience up front, effectively saying this should be number one on your list. It could also be that, as the Lovesexy album tracks mainly feature in the second, redeeming half of the concert, anyone buying the concert might expect to get Lovesexy, which hardly features in video 2.

Onenitealone - you mention that you think L2 was the weaker opener, but that's the point! The second half of the concert was supposed to be uplifting and "better".

Mindflux - thanks for your reply! smile

Apart from showcasing the actual album material - I didn't think of that - the rest I understand. At the time, Prince stated something like "the first half I did because that's what people expected of me; the second half is where I'm at". He was obviously trying to combinethe twin aspects of his character - the sacred and the profane. angel vs evillol

Cool! And, yes, definitely! Geminis, eh?

The song sequence was actually aimed at my good friend, Warning2All (hence the comment about quality difference with SOTT and LoveSexy)
