Erased artwork on "Sign..." CD Front Sleeve!! Why?

Anyone who has "Sign O The Times" on both formats will be able to spot the erased artwork on the front sleeve. Has anybody an idea why it was erased?

Look at the box to the right of the car. I don't have the vinyl copy in front of me right now, but I think there were even more differences...

Nope, I've got the CD and the vinyl in front of me,
and they look identical to me.
(except for the stupid "two disc set" writing on the CD)

Just double checked,
they're definitely identical.
