Prince will probably always sell like 500 000 to 1 million records like with 3121 or lotusflower...but for more he needs some kind of a single hit record or at least one song that gets some radio play... He gets a lot of press these days, but i really hope for a good single...maybe this is what FunkNRoll will become... pretzelbodylogic was not the best start....maybe a good album cut, but as a single? Anyone thought he might actually just be trying to ensure the album is as good as it can be? 3rdEyeGirl appears to be an experiment/concerted effort to recapture the 70s rock vibe. That includes touring with the group and developing them, improving them through hard work and over time getting them in the studio recording. It takes time to build.
To often Prince has simply plundered hus vault and repurposed old songs (often not to better effect). So personally I welcome him/them trying to develop new music.
Yes I want it now and he should certainly (in the UK at least) get the album out NOW to maximise the PR generated by the London hit n run and Brits appearance. Sadly I reckon it will be a few more months yet and it will be a very damp squib and Prince will lose interest in 3rdEyeGirl - shame as I really like this sound/vibe.
Of course the album isn't going to sell millions - I doubt many artists of Prince era/age can expect to do that. Did Bowie's new album sell millions - no! But that is not the point. Artists make their real money from touring now anyway. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Not true. You're right, we should differentiate that a lot of their roster still retains a major label relationship, and Price would be working with them in a different manner, but Kobalt was also responsible for new media aspects of releases and the results were apparently less than stellar.

Judging from what has been released I don't see it. Gotta love how they were boasting how their songs were "recorded live in the studio" and yet that Pretzel crap has not been played live, only a recording played over the PA. Remember how Prince's band ACTUALLY PLAYED the music they were involved in during concerts?
It's been over a year and still they don't sound coherent. Meanwhile Wendy Melvoin made her debut live appearance at the gig where Prince recorded half of what would become the album that made him a superstar. © Bart Van Hemelen

A lot of the new stuff sounds like they're recording live and then editing, overdubbing, and over producing songs out of a jam session or two. The vocals sound pretty tacked on to me. I'd bet the new stuff would sound better live, and played at a different tempo.

BVH - you clearly are not humble as you never caveat your posts with IMHO. And that is excatly what this is, your opinion. Some of us are really liking this new direction (for Prince) with the whole 70s rock vibe. It sounds (for me) kinda fresh.
Also, I take it you have attended the gigs in London then? Oh what was that...NO? Then how do you know whether they sound coherent or not?
Oh and if you HAD been at the gigs you would have known that they *played* (as in with instruments on stage) Pretzelbodylogic and FixUrLifeUp at the second gig at Koko on Sunday! For someone who is usually so hot on "facts" you need to get checking before posting lately BVH.
Now - stop trolling and go and enjoy your life somewhere else please... it is getting VERY tired after all these years. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally.
