iTunes problem with some 3rdeyegirl.com purchased tracks? Sorry if this turns into a bit of a technical help thread but... I spent the other morning sorting out some of the Prince & 3rdeyegirl 2013 output in my iTunes on my iMac. I had 12 tracks that I purchased from the 3rdeyegirl site so edited all their track info, giving them all Prince as the artist, 3rdeyegirl.com as the album, and renumbering them track 1 of 12, 2 of 12, and so on. Synced with my iPhone but only 10 of the 12 tracks get transferred, nothing I do will transfer either Extraloveable Reloaded or Ain't Gonna Miss U when Ur Gone to the phone. These were both .wav files but so were some of the other tracks, they all are grouped perfectly in iTunes on the mac. I selected all my tracks in iTunes and changed the ID3 tag type to v1.0 and synced again. 18 more tracks transferred but still not these two! Argh! Does anyone know if there is anything unique about these tracks and how they are tagged that would stop them transferring or is it an iTunes thing? Ta!  Just somewhere in the middle,

I have extraloveable reloaded in my iPhone and I'm pretty sure it was the wav version. Can't say for certain though as I last synced music from a play list on my Mac at work, so couldn't give any more info until Monday. RIP  | |

There is an issue with some of the wav tracks being coded as so-called "HD" audio. Use iTunes to convert it to a wav (again) and chances are the default settings will take care of it and turn them into a standard wav. Someone else can fill you in on gigahertz or whatever and their compatibility if you're curious. | |

Why use .wav and waste space? Why not use the Apple Lossless Encoder?

Are you really saving that much space by converting to AIFF? Just convert to a 256 kbps aac. Your iPhone/iPod/iPad doesn't have a high enough quality system for you to even be able to tell the difference. | |

Yes, I know. But considering it's not going to sound all THAT great on an iPhone or iPod, what's the point? The truth is, Apple's mobile music devices (let alone their extremely shitty earbuds) are not made for a "lossless", high quality listening experience. They just aren't built that way. Also, you were recommending the other person re-convert to WAV in iTunes. It's a space waster both on the computer and on the mobile device. ALAC would take up quite a bit less space than wav on each AND you'd still have the benefit of a lossless copy of the same quality as the original. | |

Although I'm not a complete novice when it comes to music files I am now completely confused. I'm happy they are now synced and playing, and I agree the iPod and earbuds, car stereo link etc are not going to give me an eargasm but I'd still like to sort of know what's the best option  Just somewhere in the middle,

I was conflating the mention of Apple Lossless here with another old thread I was reading that mentioned AIFF when I responded. Point is still the same. There's absolutely no reason to have any lossless music on your iPod or iPhone. My suggestion to reconvert to wav was so that the file would play on anything if they wanted to have a lossless file on the computer. For anything being moved to an iPhone or iPod, might as well tick that box that converts it to a high quality aac as it transfers, because chances are it isn't going to sound any better than that on Apple's hardware and isn't going to waste all that space on a mobile device. | |
