Nah, u speak nonsense here. U know perfectly how P works, recording every instrument one after the other, starting w/ drumz, he doesn't need anyone and if Morris had been playing on his albums we'd know it (+ why Morris? It would have been Bobby if anyone).

As for drum machines it had nothing to do with simplicity (it woulda been simpler to record the drums live in one take than to program the Linn anyway), it was (and still is when he uses them) a esthetic choice: the Linn (or other drum machines for that matter) has a sound of its own, that sounds quite different from live drums. Musicians in the 80's didn't embrace drum machines because it was simpler than drums (it wasn't!), they did it for esthetic reasons.

U totally misunderstood what I was saying DUDE! It was a BIG debate on my other thread about Morris playing uncredited drums on Prince's earlier 80's songs. Which Eye debated strongly! Eye know EXACTLY how Prince lays down tracks in the studio! Eye know good & dog on well he can do it all by himself!. But what Eye was saying is sometimes it may have been easier 4 him too record faster with another drummer while he layed down bass, keyboards etc. It could have been any other drummer he used also; like U mentioned Bobby..

But the drum machine versus a live drummer, Eye don't need 2 b schooled on the reasons both are used. Eye already know..

U shouldn't put a cap letter on your "Eye" when in the middle of a sentence, it's disturbing and much less elegant. Look: it's much cooler when eye write like that than when Eye write like that ^^

If you know then don't say the opposite of what u know to be true rolleyes

Your theory about the drummers doesn't stand, though (haven't read that other thread): it takes longer for P to show another drummer what he wants than to do it himself and record it in one take since anyway, Prince will usually have the whole song in his head before he starts recording it. It's absurd to consider that it would be easier in any way for him to use another drummer. Now if the track is born of a jam session then it's a jam session, but 4 a recording session Prince would just compulsively start recording the shit and that's the simplest and fastest option. And why a drummer specifically? Why not a bassist too while we're at it? Or maybe a guitarist or a keys player to play the chords?

What you seem to be doing here is try to bend logic to make it fit with an irrational belief of yours that's based on no factual data.

No offense.

EYE! Wasn't the one the brought up Morris was the uncredited drummer first! EYE was just repeating what someone else said that EYE debated over. EYE always believed it was faster for Prince to do it all himself. EYE was just adding logic in a recording studio, like when Prince recorded The Time's first two albums with Morris. Its possible he used Morris as a drummer on those albums uncredited. Someone else said Prince USED Morris on a lot of his 80's songs as a uncredited drummer. EYE don't believe it! But added logic to it if it was possible...

It really doesn't matter anyway! Its still Prince's compositions that he created & he just now wants the acknowledgement for. Which is why he has added those songs to his setlist now..

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

OK, then, but dude, u can't write EYE all in caps like that, it's too weird, it makes it sound when pple read u like a dude shouting "I" everytime the pronoun appears in a sentence, it's scary. Really eye guarantee that "eye" with no caps is the best and only decent option.

Kool you are cool person but you lost a bit of credibility because you thought 777 9311 was a real drum.it screams drum machine. Regarding Prince drum style, Prince is no virtuoso but he is a very solid in the pocket drummer with killer timing and i repeat Prince is one of the rare drummers who records without click track.

My main point with that was drum machine or live drums, whichever was used, PRINCE created the drum beat on it! That's where that "Morris played drums" mess started with, on that song. I feel the drum pattern on that song is one of Prince's most brilliant creations!!

I can understand some people

have doubt to believe that Prince kick ass on those 4 instruments

that are standard in popular music guitar bass keys and drums.

But Prince was a prodigy and he knew that his only way to the top was to perfect

the skills on every instrument.

WB made Prince play them all instruments on an audition because they couldnt

believe he can.but he did.

Princes drumming style is very distinctive.i can tell you by the way snare

was hit or kick drum if its Prince or not.

And i cant believe there are still some people who think Prince used drum

machine because of his skills lacking as a drummer.

Prince started using Linn Drum to add some variation and edge to his sound.

Everybody used drum machine in the 80s.Phill Colins a world famous drummer

and singer used linn drum and roland t 808.Do you think he used because he was lacking skills?

Eye've learned peeps here are always going to find something to discredit Prince about...Prince is equally & distinctively good at every instrument he plays! It's why Warners signed him in the first place and christened him the new Stevie Wonder!

I don't know, I was impressed with the drumming on Tamborine, which many folks mistaked for Shelia E at the time. shrug

Eye knew that was Prince on the skins on "Tamborine "! Like thebanishedone said. Prince has a very distinctive way of playing. It reminded me of his playing on "Irresistable Bitch".....

In addition, don't forget Prince's drumming on the Madhouse albums particulary Madhouse 8

the songs "2 and 7" are very powerful and he gets mentioned in two issues of Modern Drummer

for his drumming

This is a rather interesting thread. My dad, who is an excellent admires Prince for his drum programing. Which i thought was weird for my dad to say cause he loves live drums.

But, i think his drum machines were better than his actual playing. And that's not taking anything away from him! but Prince was a genius the way he used drum machines! he showed music snobs drum machines can be kickass, and even somewhat complicated.

Prince is excellent on guitar and piano no doubt about that. Drumming he is good, but i don't think he cares as much for drumming. I think Michael Bland was a hell of a drummer! and princE needed a kickass drummer like that for NPG.

I just never saw prince as really having as much interest in drums. As he did with the other instruments he played. So, like a smart guy he surrounded himself with great drummer. EX. Michael Bland, Sheila E. etc. Bobby Z... eh i never thought Bobby was that impressive IMO.

Who's his drummer nowadays? when i saw him live i believe it was a girl... don't know her name though.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
