Background of the "Contest Song"

I love the odd listen to the instrumental "Contest Song", becuase it reminds me of so many of Prince's songs.

I would like to know from other fans:

Which period do you think this song was from?
Which song does it remind you most of?
What else do you think about it?

jimipaisley	This song remind me "I could never take the place of ur man" .The song is from 2001 I think recorded with the "hit n' run" band.
