ONE NITE ALONE...

"ONE NITE ALONE"

You know, I remember it all too well.
A full moonlight night, just had a very flavorful
piece of veggie lasagna in the parking lot
of Paisley Park, wearing all black I was like the female
Batwoman I felt like. Listening to the outside soundsystem
playing the biblical word of God and Ezekiel's Wheel chariot
of the world and watchtower within it.
I watched as people walked into Paisley Park with
great anticipation and huge smiles on their faces.
A motley crew of wonderful happy excited people.
On that night VERY SPECIAL moment I hoped everybody
felt like I did, especially after
getting a wonderful tour of Paisley Park.
The best to me was, the two doves and wondering where the kitty
was, who owned the gray litter box and feeding bowls
that were empty but there that day.
I wondered why SOURCE was on the carpet in white wording
on the beige floor second floor. Seeing the beautiful arabic persian doll sitting on a chair peacefully in the basketball court, dance studio. Looking in the fridge for some kind of cheese for no reason but fun and finding only 1 carton of carnation milk (symbolic?) flower and a film container like the olden days... charlie chaplin style. Looking at Prince's motorcycle and saying to myself..."That is a pretty bike." I saw many symbolic things that made me feel like I was in King Solomon's palace and Indiana Jones book just waiting to turn another page. Well, through those thoughts it was time to go inside...after all, the orange lights outside came on and I knew it was time for this Batwoman to roll in and feel the sound.

Upon walking in... I saw the flurry of people in the NPG store just awaiting the many amazing things they were going to find. I strolled past people everywhere saying, " you think he'll come out?" It was very different. Well, out of the blue a sound was heard and then A HERD of running ensued... I said, "well, the back wall is fine with me." A blue light came on... It made everything very peaceful, serene...I loved it. Then applause, MAJOR applause. It was him. "Baby knows"... and then the screams of a lifetime. I was like WOW what the...

I was diggin the sound live, full of energy and said to myself, as I spun around one time caught myself and said, wait a minute I'm in public and no drawing attention because I'm here to observe only. Fill my mind with the answers to the questions of me. I said, "Wow, what a wondrous sound and he sure is fun!" I remember saying, "Gosh what a fun guy!" All night that ran thru my head... wish more men in the world could be carefree and fun like him then.... THEN, we all could play like children we all still are. Oh, there was a whole lot more of amazing memories THAT night but the best was the fact that YES, PRINCE, One Nite Alone with you at that moment in that moment of my mind being happy was wonderful.

So thank you for it.

If you have any wonderful memories that you have had from Prince sharing his talent with you, please raise your hand and speak it in honor of all of his hard work he has shared his whole entire life with you in sharing it with you.

Let him know... trust me on this, he will read it...

Thank you and take care,

Welcome 2 America concert, East Rutherford, New Jersey...December 15, 2010. Lalah Hathaway was the guest performer. For a duet, the two unfurled a tender, moving rendition of “Sometimes It Snows In April.”

.

The song sounds amazing. But maybe a half minute into the song Lalah’s mic stops working.

Now, a show had already been canceled on account of lousy sound at that venue, so I’m checking Prince on the big screen hoping this latest glitch doesn’t upset him too much in the middle of his show. I felt for Lalah, being up there in front of everyone, under the lights and the pressure to perform, her beautiful moment interrupted.

.

Remaining perfectly composed, Prince continued playing, singing Lalah’s lines, a calming influence on her as he led her to the piano where he got her a working mic and they duetted on some other ballad-- “Diamonds and Pearls” perhaps. All the while, he was taking care of those who came to see him and his band, making sure the song continued to flow seamlessly.

.

And he did not just continue to sing and play; it was like he had taken a song I’ve known nearly three quarters of my life, reached deep down inside it to reveal some inner world I never knew existed. It was like hearing the song for the first time and falling in love with it all over again.

.

And seeing him looking after Lalah, letting her know everything was okay, it was so touching. He’s a world-famous romantic--to be sure--but it’s this kind of moment, unscripted, genuine and tender where he shines at his brightest.
