I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (Alternate Version)

8:05 - completely different mix, starts out much more minimal and builds up. Fantastic. Was scheduled to be released on that bootleg compilation "Collections" last year, the same one that "American in Paris" and "Our Destiny" came from. The John Luongo mix of "Batdance" with Big Daddy Kane is on there too (see other thread).

Y'all heard it? Thoughts? I absolutely love it.

Militant--

You're killing me here (and over in the Batdance thread). I haven't found either one yet.

Listening to this now.

That's interesting, as it has a breakdown before the guitar solo, just like the Dream Factory version! I love that.

Finding the drums and production very "Escape Club" like. I keep wanting to sing "she's so mean, but I don't care!"

Keep your headphones on.

Thumbs up--and thanks to the one who set them free.

Now--what's the story with this thing? Can anyone confirm what it's purpose was, and who did it?

Wow, it sounds good to my ears.

Make that it sounds real good. I do like this a whole lot.

Just listening to it now, and oh maaaaaaan it's good stuff. The feeling of hearing an unreleased song or mix from the glory days is a feeling like no other.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

These were harder to find than I'm used to, what with so many of the usual places no longer being sources for this type of thing...

That said, persistance + a search engine = new Prince tracks on your hard drive.

Ok, this is absolutely off the chain.

Those horns are absolute perfection. The vocals are much more highlighted. The rhythm is infectious.

I will be blasting this at my next party/ DJ.

If this was actually inteded as a 12" release, I can only assume that it wasn't released because it's so good. This just makes me want to hear the 12" of Dorothy Parker more. I hope more stuff like this and Vicki Waiting comes for this planned Connections bootleg.

So glad we got something to REALLY be excited about this year! Thanks to whoever freed it. I love the funky bass groove and I love how it builds. The last chorus feels kind of spliced in, though maybe it just feels odd as I'm used to the album version. Bravo!
