What if half the things Peach & Black really think.....turn out to be a lie?

How will you know the truth? Listen and make up your own mind.

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

its certainly a good album to have..shows a different side to his music that isnt often heard and its good for the most part..some absolute clunkers as well mind you which is par for the course in most prince albums after 1988 biggrin ..look forward to hearing the review..

That was a nice suprise as these guys always digitally accompany me on my travels.

Thanks.

These comments really should be added as extra commentary track aside of the music (like dvd commentary during the movie)

Listening to this something struck me.

Captain is doing the soundeffects to what others mention (like adding the shaggy bombastic to bombastic smile ) and doing mannnnnnny more interupts during 25+ shows.

That is funny because Captain is often talking about Prince doing soundeffects to the lyric (like saying clock or time and adding a ticking).

lol razz

Conspirary thought/formula:

P = Cap (or at least from the same testtube)

I can't believe the lukewarm reception Circle of Amour got. That's probably one of his all time greatest ballads and in my top 3 Prince songs of the 90s. I love this show, but sometimes you guys get my blood boiling!!! lol

How about for the next show you do a review of all the 3rd Eye Girl songs that came out this year (Same Page Different Book, BCW, Screwdriver, Fixurlifeup, Groovy Potential etc)? I think it would be interesting to hear some discussion about Prince's newer material.

I agree that would make a cool show.

woot! another new show! I just found this one. Awesome, thanks as always for the effort!

Can't wait to listen & I predict nothing less than an extended rant from Captain about the

ticking clock sample in the song The Truth! biggrin

That's funny because I've been thinking that P&B should do some comentary tracks for

Prince's movies (maybe when they run out of albums to review). Can you imagine just how hilarious

it would be watching UTCM or Grafitti Bridge while listening to these guys discussing it.

Yeah, fun!

Great fun as always to listen to u guys biggrin I really like this album & don't skip any tracks but i was particularly interested to hear your take on Don't play me and Other side of the pillow.

"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Another great podcast guys. Thanks

Kinda agree overall. It's a 7/10 album for me.

Love the title track (apart from the scream, MFing and the sound effects), 3rd Eye, Cool as the Other Side. But there is some tosh on there too. Like the Liam Gallagher track biggrin

Guys,

thanks for this one as well, it is always both fun and educational in a way to listen to your analysis, opinions, jokes and true comments.

I think it was by August 2012 that I found out about your postcasts and within a few months I got to listen to most of your shows (downloaded and listened to it in my workshop while working on sculptures). Sometimes I laughed out loud, sometimes I had to jot down some comments that I wanted to listen back when you guys state elements sharp to the minute and second. Excellent!

I will get back to you on some, among others The Flow (from the so called Symbol album).

In response to one of your questions, on THE TRUTH's Man In The Uniform, indeed it contains that little blue Smurf on a trumpet, that tune you could also hear in the song Chaos And Disorder (following "...nowadays happy and alowed...alright" referring to gay acceptance in the army), that you could also hear at the end of some live versions of 1999 during the Purple Rain tour (accompanying the lion he always had in his pocket "...u no he's ready to roar... Party... rock the house / tell me what u wanna do / paaaaarty"). I remember that someone here, or on the Housequake site ('herinnert u zich deze nog nog nog?' / do you remember?) told that the tune is a sort of American boys scout tune. So, we might as well wonder, was Tommy B on Chaos and Disorder - or Prince himself - doing a sneak return of either a Matt Fink or a Lisa Coleman snippet, referring to equality (another eighties topic)?

COMEBACK, in my opinion, is such a strong representation of the believe I share: (that) people's spirits will return, somewhere somehow. And using elements (in this song's case That Sweet WIND was you) I know for a fact is how they - the souls - sometimes come back and appear to you. I could really appreaciate this, back then when I got the 4 disc box (3 Crystal Balls with The Truth), but it made me wonder how reincarnation would fit into Prince's believe. A discussion worth on its own perhaps.

Thanks for another interesting and entertaining podcast P&B. I never think of this album to "tell the troof y'all", but it's one I will give some time to while mowing the grass this weekend...or maybe not....storming again! Darn...gee guess I'll just have to leave the yard alone...what a shame. heh heh.

I always enjoy these reviews.

The Truth songs never did much for me. Keeping with the P+B reedit theme. I think The Dawn should have been the opener. Most of the songs are below mediocre to me. While others may complain that other instruments and sound effects do not make an 'acoustic' record, I really don't mind that stuff as much as I mind that his acoustic guitar on this record sounds like he is playing a toy guitar from kmart. It just does not sound like an acoustic to me. It sounds like some plastic extra light stringed very thin bodied week acoustic electric hybrid guitar. Then again, prince began to hit the phase where his tones, beats, lyrics and general sound was taking on more generic tones than when he had better bands and equipment to experiment with. I would like to hear him put out something that actually sounds acoustic. The songs on the Truth are just ok. Lots of pointless songs about nothing anybody really cares about. I am even vegetarian and I find nothing about Animal Planet terribly appealing as far as a song goes. I give this record a 2 out of 10.

I'll keep it simple. It's a good album with a few great songs and some just ok. Songs that I really like:

3rd Eye = 10/10, driving & funky groove, great lyrics

Don't Play Me = 9/10, loses one point for the suggestion that being straight reduces the amount of radio play you get

The Truth = 8/10

Comeback = won't rate it

One of Your Tears = 8/10

The Dawn = 8/10

Thanks for this review.
Listened to it while baking Christmas cookies.
Made me get the CD out and listen to again - it's been more than a decade since I last played it. It's good, but a mixed bag as is typical with Prince.
There are no prince fans (or anyone who even knows he's still alive for that matter) around me for at least a 100 mile radius, so it's fun to listen to your podcasts.
Thanks!

Not for 100 miles? That sux. Where do you live? There's gotta be an Org-we who knows somebody around where you are.
