My Master's in western esoteric traditions almost guarantees it lol. On his very public quest to understand the nature of 'God' I'm sure he's come across many Gnostic, occult and Theosophic principles that he chose to include in his art.

For example, the 3rd eye is a term for the pineal gland going back to at least ancient Egypt when they realized that if you cut a brain in half hemispherically the pineal gland looks like an eye. In fact, it looks exactly like the Eye of Horus symbol I'm sure you've seen. The pineal gland is supposedly how one interacts with the plane of the spiritual. It's important in many cultures. It's widely used in transcendental meditation, practiced by many Buddhists. The imagery of the lotus flower is also used esoterically in Asia and in Prince's material. The All Seeing Eye of the Illuminati may represent the idea of an all-powerful Big Brother always watching you or it may even relate to the anti-christ of the Muslim faith, the Dajjal, who is said to be blind in the right eye. It may relate to Horus who had his eye gouged out by the evil Set. Hence the popularity of covering one's right eye in photo shoots and album covers lately, if you believe in that sort of thing. They worship Set or the Dajjal.

There's also some alchemical knowledge in his works, among many other references to the occult, astrology and other mystical subjects.

I'd say he's just a spiritually curious dude.

The ultimate spiritual goal of the Alchemist ws to produce gold from lead, or produce a moral and humanitarian man from a base and selfish one. This is also the goal of Freemasonry, which takes much of its symbolism from Medieval Alchemist and Gnostic practices. They term it as turning the rough ashlar (or stone) to the perfect ashlar, but it's the same principle.
