Prince's worst work. I'd have to say The Black album and The Gold Experience are Prince's worst works. The Black al was just plain crazy. The Gold outside Pussy Control thumbs down. It only sold 1 million and is out of print. Don't know about his MP3 onlys.
Kind of like MIchael strange...sell huge in '84 then go way down on the next album. What are your least faveorite Prince works? [Edited 10/13/13 20:57pm] [Edited 10/13/13 21:02pm] Working up a purple sweat.

Huh.
Having opinions that diverge from the rest is one thing, being completely clueless is something else altogether.

RaveUN2, 3121,and Musicology are much better. Working up a purple sweat.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, there are some mad ones all over this forum, but im sorry, The Black Album and The Gold Experience are 2 of the greatest albums of his career. To say that RaveUn2 is better than them just does not compute to me. But,like i said, your entitled to your opinion.Nutcase...

I would pick Rave Un2 over The Gold Experience any day of the week.
As for Prince's worst work, it's difficult to say, because even his lesser albums have their redeeming moments. I'd say D&P was a very uneven release, lots of filler tracks and hasn't aged too well. But then you can't deny the greatness of tracks like Money Don't Matter 2night, Gett Off or Live 4 Love.
The Slaughterhouse ain't great, although I am fairly partial to Hypnoparadise and Y Should Eye Do That.
Musicology and 3121 were a bit safe and tepid in places and they're probably the two albums I listen to the least.
NPS, Rave and Planet Earth are his most underrated albums IMO.

^^ any album with I Love U But Eye Don't Trust U Anymore, Strange But True and Prettyman on it cannot be considered his worst work.
I'd say Batman, D&P or Musicology are his worst albums. NPS doesn't count as its an NPG release.

why on earth does Musicology get so much flak around here? I really like it

for me it has to be 20Ten, closely followed by Planet Earth. When i first heard 20Ten i was seriously considering giving up and putting my vinyl collection up for sale. awful, just bloody awful.

My love for Prince did not survive the Jehova fundamentalist pseudo jazz that was Rainbow Children, but Musicology brought it back. It's not perfect, but at least he wrote some decent songs again.

New Power Soul is definitly at the top of the worst heap
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Musicology is the only Prince album without a single standout track IMO. It's not that the songs are bad, I actually quite enjoy most of the album when I'm in the right mood (sans Life O The Party and Call My Name - yawn), but there's nothing on the record to get overly excited about. If I were to compile a top 50 Prince playlist, I don't think any tracks from Musicology would get a look in.

Recently I made a Prince playlist using 2 songs each from Musicology thru Lotusflower. Choosing 2 from Musicology was tough. Ending up with Musicology & On The Couch. It was tough. Did I say it was tough? It was tough. [Edited 10/14/13 17:16pm]

And, for the record, Prince's next album after Purple Rain, ATWIAD, actually sold really well (still amongst his best-sellers), in spite of such a remarkable stylistic change. However, units shifted are in no way an indicator as to an album's quality. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

FOr some reson my computer's messing up(and you read wrong). PR is Prince's only album to sell 20 million. It takes 10 million to be a superstar. Actually Purple R is the ony one to sell over that. Working up a purple sweat.

You make it sound like a failure! It's a remarkable achievement. There are only 60-odd albums in the history of music to have sold that many copies - that's out of millions of albums released - it is the tiniest, tiniest percentage of albums that make that landmark. Just what are you trying to prove? ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

WTF???? ????? Did u just say the gold expirience is one of his worst???????? WATTT i can't even respond. Same with the black album. i can see how someone wouldn't care for either album but wat???????

Okay even worse. An album is considered a modest hit if it sells 500,000 copies which means it was certified golds. An album is considered a hit if it sells 1 million copies = platinium. Anything over 2 million is a big success. Now this is all prior to 2000. anything after that divide by 2.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Musicology, 3121 are not much worse. Even though they are not as good.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Musicology is his worst album in my opinion, it makes new power soul look like a masterpiece in comparison. It's the most boring, uninspired album in Prince's entire career. 3121 is also pretty dull and boring, I only like Te amo corazon and the Dance, the rest doesn't do it 4 me. Welcome 2 The Dawn
