I was excited hearing Lovesexy that he was going to create a new genre of music, something that would synthesize his vision of music, incorporating disparate elements of rock, soul, funk, jazz, etc. Such a revolution of sound never really materialized, but he has continued to create in various genres and that's a good thing. All these years later it seems a revolving door of musicians have played unfer that moniker. I don't think a "concept" ever gelled. He should have just kept the Revolution band name.

A marketing ploy. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I see it as Prince's way of explaining his always looking ahead, never looking back. I wouldn't dare to say more than this, the whole thing is too blurred.

Pretty much what was said above, a spiritual movement of sorts P is supposeded to create in his own mythos, I'm fine with that, that mythos always was attractive to me and still is

As for naming a band after that IDK, it kinda reduced the concept in the end. The label I can understand, but the band?

Ad for keeping that name for his band for 22 years IDK either, I don't really care, he could have played it like Bill Laswell who gets a new name for every combo he plays with but in the end it's just as absurd because it's still Bill Laswell behind it. Now that P came-up with a new concept with 3EG I first thought he'd find another name for the jazz/funk combo but in the end it's still the NPG and 3EG is more to be seen like a side-project à la Madhouse.

A "generation" is 25 years long, so...

I remember after Graffiti Bridge came out, the music made me want to be a part of this NPG. He should have started a fan club at that moment and we could have all become members of the NPG. Kind of like a better version of the KISS Army. Now all it seems to be is a revolving door of musicians in his current band.
