CS and DOW? You can clearly hear that the studio version of Calhoun Square is missing the finishing touches. DOW was arranged to death in order to find a definitive version which does the song actually justice. [Edited 9/24/13 21:41pm]

I love both P Control and Now. As much as I live the live versions of Days of Wild, if the studio version was meant to be on The Gold Experience it would have been very much out of place. RIP

I guess I'm one of the few fans who actually prefers the studio version of "Days Of Wild" I see nothing wrong with it,at all.I like the stipped-down,hip hop feel of it.I think it's the most convincing rap song that Prince has ever done.

Days Of Wild instead of P Control
I also think the perfect opening track would be "Hide The Bone".Imagine if the album began with that hardcore funk masterpiece! And then he follows it up with "Days Of Wild"!! Release it in the summer of '94 and it would have created quite a ruckus!

Crystal Ball is good enough. For me as is. But hey. You can always. Make your own mix. Which I'm known for doing. Should really look into. A DJ career. I just might . ♡AllTheCriticsLoveMeInNewYork♡

Geez at all the hate for Pussy Control! I actually really like that song. Now, on the other hand, not so much. I love The Gold Experience. By the numbers, it is my favorite Prince album. That being said, I dont think its perfect. If you switch out the songs I dont like for ones I do which I believe were written around the same time and even considered for the album, that would take this album into the stratosphere. I know Im probably gonna get a lot of shit for this but:
Switch: Shhh Now Eye Hate U For any of these: Acknowledge Me Ripopgodazippa Hide The Bone Interactive The Ride And wow! (Not that I would necessarily want to change it though. Its still my favorite Prince album and just suggestive edit.) [Edited 10/13/13 21:12pm]

I just think it sounds silly the chorus is really annoying...
Aaaaoooooowwwwwww.....pussy control....ohhhwwwwww
and the lyrics in the verses are terrible
"Days Of Wild" is a much more convincing hip-hop track

All his 90's album were filled with too much filler. There is also too much stuff on TGE that remains mediocre at best. Like PC, WM, Now, BJB.

"Days Of Wild" is a much more convincing hip-hop track Prince was never a convincing rapper anyways but the sheer awfulness of the lyrics and the delivery make it listenable for me. Its not a serious song nor do I take it that way.

Billy Jack Bitch is one of the best songs on TGE. Thank you!!! How can you cut BJB?!?! This is a clear reason that less isn't always more. Consider 1999, my favorite album. If there was room, it'd be great to have Purple Music and Moonbeam Levels on there. Of course, there isn't room, so I wouldn't want it changed at all. . I think "Days of Wild" shouldve been on the "Gold Experience". "Calhoun Square" even though its a great track, it really doesn't flow with the album and wouldve been better suited either as a b-side or for "Chaos".If I had the power to influence that tracklist the 2 main songs that I wouldve included would be "Acknowledge Me" and "Love Sign" of off "1800NewFunk" by taking the song off of that comp and replacing it with "Snow Man" maybe. I would also place "Endorphinemachine"(in its original form) on "Come" where I think it fits better. "Love Sign" is a great song and I feel it wouldve worked better on the "Gold Exp." in its original form. I also feel that "Acknowledge Me" would of done really good as a single. I also wouldv'e regulated "319" and "We March" as some strong b-sides. Honestly "Rock and Roll is Alive" is a fun track but its not so much up to par with the other tracks that I've mentioned. Also I think he just should have released this album before "Come". That album had so much potential, but I think the politics , releasing the "Come" first and second guessing of the tracklist ultimately hurt the albium. But I stand that "Aknowledge Me","Days of Wild" and "Love Sign" wouldve made it a stronger album. What do you think ? Big Chick "Security Ensuring Thee"

This is an unpopular opinion, but here goes
Prince should have shelved Come...kept it in the vaults
Instead,in the summer of 1994,he should have released The Gold Experience, with the original tracklist. It's a superior album in every way and it would have made more of an impact in 1994.People would have been going nuts over songs like "Days Of Wild" and "Acknowledge Me".And even "Love Sign" could have been included.Coming off a huge hit with "TMBGITW",there is no way that this album could have failed.
Come didn't make much of a splash. The mainstream ignored it.Prince would have been riding high in the summer/fall of 1994,if TGE had been out around that time. Most of these songs were still "new" to fans. When the album was finally released a year later (in late 1995),the only song most of us hadn't already heard was "Shy".

I LOVE this version of Chaos and Disorder!! Removing the total clunkers (I Rock...and Right the Wrong) and adding tracks 5, 9 and 10
I don't think Acknowledge Me works on Gold, though. I would also try to add P.Control somewhere in your version.

If anything, this thread demonstrates that Prince had no shortage of great songs during this period (1993/94).That was a very productive time for him.

@BigChick @SoulAlive re: summer of '94. Wow, I had no idea Prince second guessed the track list so much but it makes sense with how much of a perfectionist he is. Still, I agree The Gold Experience is far superior an album to Come. Its interesting to read that Prince wouldve probably left a more lasting impression had he shelved Come and gone with TGE instead initially. I was far too young to know about how much cultural impact it had at the time, but wasnt TMBGITW one of his biggest hits to date? If anything, Come or no Come, I think people were just freaked out about the name change alone. I think that spoke volumes more than any of his music at the time, but then again, its all my speculation; I wasnt around. '94-'96 is my favorite period in Prince history though.
