Blast from the Past 1.0 I've been listening to this thing. Most of it I've heard before and is just recycled from other sources. But these instrumentals (Instrumental #1-#8), where are they from? They're way too jazzy just to be missing some lyrics. They come first in the tracklisting on the boot which would imply that they are older than much of the other material.

Sounds like the Loring Park instrumentals. They have been around for about a hundred years.

Yeah,, I just found them in lesser quality on Work It 2.0. Nevermind then. I know it's blasphemy, but I don't really pay attention to the jazzier stuff, including Madhouse. It all sounds like 80's smooth jazz to me.

http://thedigitalgarden.o...gress.html This is probably the best version of these recordings, which is possibly where Eye Records lifted them from.

It is. The entire Blast from the Past set retains the origianl artwork. (Or at least the version I pulled does.) The Husney's image is attached to the instrumental tracks. The Parade demos and 10,000 Wallpaper images are there too. It's rather ballsy really. Although, now I think of it, the version I downloaded may be some enterprising fan's attempt to preempt Eye by releasing their own free version of this.

I have 'em on a late 90s CD-set called Studio Lights which features mostly recordings from the 78-82 years. There's 16 instrumentals there. Minimum info in the booklet but probably Prince warming up for his first real album session. Pretty good...for a boy! [Edited 9/23/13 13:15pm]

Indeed. The fact that they use(d) free releases for their own gain is bad enough. I avoid all Eye releases so I don't know if original artwork is embeded in this excuse for a release or not.

Why avoid it? Just don't pay for it. Eye can be useful in their own way. I couldn't find a source for Box o' Chocolates, so I just dismantled Eye's Lotus Box, fixed the artwork, and now I have Box o' Chocolates. See? Useful.

As a matter of principle. As I'm sure you are aware, a large portion of Eye's releases are sourced from free boots, which I obtain as and when they are released, so I have no need to collect Eye cd's whether obtained for free or not. The rest of their catalogue holds little interest to me, save for one off things such as the Montreux videos, which I was grateful to receive from someone who was good enough to pay for them and upload them so I could grab for free.

They are all auncient in the Prince world, they date from 1976 to 1977 and they are virtually from the days when he had an afro and a lot fo dreams. I think they are pretty minmal myself. The best is a 7 minute acoustic guitar jam thats quite beautiful in a hippie spaced out girl with a guitar and flowers in her hair type way. Another one is a hilarious snatch of Adams Family like organ playing. An amusing novelty from the Prince equivalent of the Mesolithic era. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
