Thieves in the Temple - demo

Is the acoustic version (on Princes iVault) the right speed? Prince's voice seems unusually high.

The wooh is on the one!

And more importantly--what the heck is this thing anyway? Is it really a demo? Why's it so long and so repetitive (I'm assuming you're talking about the same one I'm thinking of--the acoustic guitar/vocal only thing?)? And for that matter, is that Alphabet St. acoustic/guitar and voice thing the demo he actually gave to Mazarati?

i think you mean Kiss. Yes i thought the same about that 'demo' - it's only the 1st verse- and as much as David Z and Mazarati did the beats/music, i doubt they added any lyrics. so my theory is there is another fuller demo that he gave to them.

PS i think the thieves track is probaly a rehearsal of some type.

Actually, I messed up even worse than that. I was actually thinking about something that circulates as "Alphabet St. Blues"--I have no idea why I started talking about the Kiss demo in the middle. Actually (sticking for a moment to Kiss instead of changing in the middle of a sentence), from the stories told, I think that might have been all he did give them, as far as a recording. I assume he gave them the lyrics for the rest on a piece of paper. Which is why they felt free to make their own arrangement, since he'd just given them the barest of musical guidance.

It does seem sped up slightly, the simple little acoustic version of Thieves in the Temple.

I'm referring to an acoustic version of Thieves (guitar and vocals only). Quite slow and bluesy. Clocks in at 5:22 min.

One of my top 10 Prince tracks.

.

It certainly has the smell of a 'fan-made' track - I'm pretty sure it's the same few verses looped. And perhaps a little fast.

.

Still totally awesome, sends shivers down the spine.

Fan made? Where would they get a new vocal take? Or do you mean just artificially extended?

I'd say that the file that circulates of it is a bit too fast and that's why his voice sounds unusually squeaky. I'm not sure if it's been corrected on some bootleg releases.
