2 Whom It May Concern (the My Name Is Prince b-side)

I was in a charity shop the other day and happened to stumble across a whole load of Prince CD singles (I'm guessing a fan had given away their collection). I didn't bother buying them as I'm not really a collector and just really care about the music. I did notice on the My Name Is Prince single that it had a b-side called 2 Whom It May Concern which I'd never heard of before. Can anyone shed any light on this song? Is it worth getting?

Its not really much of a song, its like an advert for the Symbol album. He introduces little snippets of each song and the band.

*

There was a bit of a video for it on the TV special Ryde Dyvine I seem to recall

The video is better than the actual song. It shows prince in a mad mask spinning records.

Here in the US
The video was shown in full on the Playboy Channel, a edited clip was shown on the CBS special Act 1 or 2?
* I know because I recorded them on VHS when they originally aired *
It was also the B-side of "7"
The video was pretty cool, It's a funky track cool

The music is a remix of 7. He's rapping an advertisement for the album with song clips dropped in to fill out the lyrics.

the song is (was) a message addressed to Michael Jackson and other so-called self proclaimed "kings". wink

.." 2 whom it may concern U must come 2 ur senses, there r no kings in this world - only princes...".. razz

and, I loved that message back then.. it was soooo cool... cool

It's also the source of the name I called Prince during the symbol years--when the lyrics refer to the "funky new album" there's a sound where the title would be. Kind of a "kerPONG!!"

So that's what I always said for the symbol:

"So," I'd say to my wife, "there's this new Kerpong song."

"Okay," she'd say.

"It's pretty good," or "It's kind of dull," or "You wanna hear it?" I'd say.

"Okay," she'd say.

I'd cue it up, start playing..

"I meant Okay, I hear you talking, not Okay, play it."

"Oh, sorry. Anyway, that's the new song."

"Okay."

"

You haven't missed much. The days of great Prince b-sides were already over by then.

And yeah, nova is right. Prince was sending out quite a few digs to the self-proclaimed "King of Pop" at that time.
