The real question is has he ever acted? The jury is out on that.

Every "movie" that he's done, has been him portraying himself.

Could one safely say the best acting Prince ever did was on that "Muppet Show" episode?

Wow...that's sad.

Short Critique of Acting Styles of Prince in three major movies:

Purple Rain: Amateurish but not terrible. Best scenes is where he did the overconfident swagger thing he does so well ("Don't worry about it Billy, "That ain't Lake Minnetonka). Worst scenes are when he tried to look angry and just came off as a petulant child denied the ice cream cone he so desires. When he hear the crowd's applause after playing Purple Rain he does his worst and best acting. The pacing up and down just looks downright silly but the smile of finally understanding what was going on was classic.

Under the Cherry Moon: Mixed bag. Many of the comic bits are brilliant. Many of the extreme close-ups showing his superhuman sexiness are cheesy and almost unwatchable. The scene where he writes "F you" on the check that Mrs. Wellington gives him as "Anotherloverholenyohead" starts to play is stone cold classic. The death scene with the one strand of blood hanging from his mouth after a shotgun blast is just downright ridiculous. Prince should have fired the director who directed him on that scene.

Graffiti Bridge: Some of the worst acting, outside of a porn movie, I have ever seen. Prince seems drugged. His emotion runs the gamut from A-B...he's angrily pouty in half of the scenes and depressingly pouty in the other half. One of the problems is that there are no actors to work off of. At least in PR, he had W and L as dramatic foils/allies and Morris as his evil counterpart. P interacts almost not all with Morris and his band has no one who interjects anything except for TC Ellis. The only worse actor in the movie is Ingrid Chavez who gave a performance that destroyed her chances to act, sing or even work in a Starbucks after her turn as an angel/feather.

I agree with all of the above. And all this is basically saying, in my opinion, is the more control Prince has when making a movie...the worst the movie is going to be. He needs someone to rein him in.

It's because of a picture that I seen on this site where he is at his piano and I think that there are candles in the background. His head is rested on his arm and he's looking towards the camera. I believe it was in the "Prince still can get it" thread a while back. Someone else had mentioned it and I agreed. Once upon a time, I too considered him as sexy. Now...not so much. Actually, not at all. smh

He looks like a vampire frog prince in a Tim Burton flick.

I would love to see a Woody Allen movie with Prince in it, though I think it is highly unlikely...

Will he ever? When is he not?

But seriously, maybe he should star in his own biopic. But leave the directing and screenwriting to the professionals in any event.
