i'm guessing this was recorded around the time he was working with andy allo? it has that slightly off kilter thing about it and it's a bit reminiscent of his 1970s songs. they did some good stuff together and she seems to have inspired him to start thinking a bit less formulaic about his songwriting again. good stuff. i'm liking this more and more with each listen.

Yes, Isten. If I Was Your King and Yellow Gold were great little organic adventures by Prince and the band, with the kind of subtle and fluid musical deviations of Groovy Potential.

The 1:22 clip is pretty interesting... still haven't heard the full song yet though. "He's a musician's musician..."

I got mine finally a couple hours later after this post. Not sure why it took so long as previous songs the download showed up immediately after purchase. Hope you finally got yours.
As for the song, its simply ok. I HATE autotune with a passion...but its sorta bareable here. I do like the horns. Its ok filler for my 2013 playlist.

So funny, because you're right, it does sound like a song, that could have been on Andy's album, but I do feel the 70s vibe you're talking about. I feel like Barry White's orchestra is going to come out swinging somewhere in the song. Then close to the end, with the instrumental part and the horns, I feel the music vibe of TSOP, Isaac Hayes Orchestra, and Van McCoy.
Feel like this could have been a song on the 'For You' album as well, because of that 70s vibe. [Edited 8/15/13 10:38am]

I love it. Super smooth loungy jazz a l'Prince with a super breakdown and build up. Sensual track with bits of everything, simple but effective lyrics and the end and bass is just too sexy.

Love It this. This song is a close relative of Love 2 The 9's, maybe even better. an album with this Big City and The breakdown could be pretty amazing. Hope it gets pushed out to radio.

Well, depending on what Parliament--yeah, that could definitely make a difference.
I heard it after not hearing anything for a few hours. Clean palate--sounded fine.

Okay, now I've heard the whole song. I'm not really excited about this. It's a nice breezy outtake, but that's about it. His vocals sound rough.
The Org must be getting desperate, because this is the same Org that dissed 'Act Of God' (from 20ten) and the brilliant 'Lotusflow3r' album and now is praising this.
I think that Prince is releasing songs that are not intended for release in any other form.
Songs like 'Rock & Roll Love Affair', 'Screwdriver', 'Big City' and 'FixUrLifeUp' deserve to be on an album... not so sure about this.
There are elements that I like... the instrumental breakdown toward the end, and the interplay between the guitar and horns...

Some good songs have sprung forth from this 3rd Eye Girl period, but this is one of the best imo. I'm happy.
BTW, I liked Boyfriend, Same Page, Breakfast and FixUrLifeUp as well.
