Prince Shows Up on Twitter. Selfies, Pictures of Food Follow.

Maybe this Twitter thing has some legs to it, after all.

Prince, the musician who was huge in the ’80s and is now best-known for fighting YouTube, has officially taken to Twitter, using the @3rdeyegirl handle. Twitter has verified the account, and Twitter’s @Twittermusic account has double-blessed it, so that’s about as rock-solid as things get in a world where everyone knows you’re a dog. (Meaning: Who knows, really.)

Anyway, Prince is doing what all early Twitter users do — he’s posting photos of himself, and what he eats. There are 36,000 people watching this right now, but let’s assume that number goes up a bit shortly.

It's getting a lot of press attention...all the music sites are talking about it. Nice way to get some extra attention, hopefully his next tweets will make more sense

I suspect that soon we will see a Vine from Prince. Maybe 6 seconds of him tuning his guitar.

So awesome. I happened to visit the 3rdeyegirl twitter page in the middle of the RIP tweets. Dude is hysterical and clever. I loved these. And I think the more Prince involves himself in twitter, FB, youtube and the like, the easier it will be to turn on the young 'uns to his genius. He totally rocked this, and the press coverage has been awesome. Favorites: LA Times, "Prince takes to twitter, reveals fondness for pepper". And its one of the top stories on People.com, and just about all other music and celebrity sites. Also, thought the food and selfie pics were an smart, entertaining twist on the pop culture tweets... hope we see more from him!!!

Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and Billboard are also reporting on it. Prince is also one of the trending topics on Google's Entertainment news section.

EVERY1 is talking about this. Its on the front page of just about every celebrity gossip site, music site, and tons of people are RT 3rdeyegirl or trying to get a reply from Prince.

It went from 14,000 to 54,000 over night. Prince still got it. Boom!

The followers are jumping in numbers. To a degree, the only way all this would ever work is if Prince is more involved.

..the numbers are going to make P .. hopefully he will continue on, another thing that will stop the ride is people posting the tweets..some people haven't learn from the whole Serpan mess .. Please don't make it a trend. I like when Prince opens up and is down to earth and interact with folks. It's never too late to be humble and show another side of yourself. Keep it up .Don't stop ,we like what you are doing/
