Is Prince withdrawing his albums from sale as he gets his masters back?

I live in the UK and if you go in one of our big stores (HMV, Virgin etc) you cannot find 'For You', 'Prince' or 'Dirty Mind' in any of them.

I understand Prince is getting his Masters off WB on a yearly basis. Is he responsible for the lack of his early albums (cause of his new found beliefs conflicting with his earlier art), or is it WB (just being asses)?

This is definately happening! I'm not imagining it!

What next? no Controversy? 1999? Purple Rain? ...

David Bowie's 90's albums are unavailable in the UK (apart from 'hours...' releasesd in '99.)

Maybe they both just wanna piss us off!

Even amazon don't have The Buddha Of Suburbia and Tin Machine II. Guess I'll never hear these albums. They never turn up in second hand stores either.

Thinking about it, Come, The Gold Experience and Chaos & Disorder haven't been on the shelves for a while also. Where I'm at, anyway!

Looks like one day the only Prince album you'll be able to buy will be Purple Rain.

Perhaps there's just not enough interest in the man anymore.
Some folk were told that TRC wasn't gonna be available in some stores due to lack of demand!!! Sign of the times, eh?

His albums aren't very widely available unfortunately, but here and there I still see Drity Mind for example.
I don't think that Prince is getting his masters back.
But I wish him luck with it though, because he said that's the one thing he wants before he dies.

All of them are available in major stores in the UK.

If the tram isn't working to get you to a big city, you can always purchase online (amazon.co.uk / hmv.co.uk) - but you'll need one of those new-fangled credit card things - and they do decimal prices - not tanners and farthings.

He will start to get his masters back progressively, But I don't believe the contractual period under the agreement with Warners has expired even for 'For You' yet.

Strange - I've seen 'em on the shelves, and they're all available online from hmv.co.uk - and they are in stock as they ship within 3 days.

The only albums I've ever had problems getting hold of were TRC and ONAL!

Of course, you have to bear in mind that, eventually, production of a certain album will cease. WB, or any other label, are not going to eternally produce the back-catalogue of any artist. Once they've decided that their not going to see a return, the title gets deleted. It's then up to other re-issue companies (like Rykodisk, for example) to obtain the right to re-produce the album, if they think they could make a buck with it. However, you normally need to generate further interest in the re-issues, the most common being to digitally re-master an album.

HMV Manchester, the lot are there and that really cheap place across the road has a good selection at £5.99 ie lovesexy, ATWIAD , P.Rain, etc. You need to look harder.

When they hear there's Yorkshire blood coming over the border, the Arndale folk will start hiding the stock.

It doesn't have anything to do with Prince.

It has to do with the fact that Prince has a tiny fan-base compared to the past, and it isn't financially worth the large chains stocking every single one of his releases.
