New Music There should be a category for His New Music so we can focus on it. I can't keep up with the way he releases stuff today. I gotta admit I hate this new era. I miss the days of CDs boxes. I don't like downloading single songs or ordering through the mail. I miss the pleasure of seeing his work on the record shelfs. The way things are I can't get a complete feel for what's he's doing it's so fragmented. His work use to have a flavor each CD. Although I don't like the fro Its good he's put a new image to his latest work. We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

Record stores that would actually carry a decent amount of Prince's catalog barely exist anymore. They've almost all closed down. What you're talking about is the same as complaining about all the cars and wishing for horses to come back. I miss CDs, too, but that means nothing.

An album (maybe a double album) would be much better than throwing out songs randomly. We was supposed 2 get a new album next month but now it seems like it wont happen. I think lots of fans are pissed of at the moment. Welcome 2 The Dawn

I'm sure you know that after you download a song you can "burn"/"record" it to a CD...Of course the ability to do this does not negate the OP's position of not liking Prince's way of distributing his music, but even if Prince did/does put his new music on CDs, we'd still have to mail order them because, as someone already said, purchasing CDs in stores is basically no longer an option. And, that's coming from someone who only began purchasing CDs when record companies stopped mass producing albums.

I'm only 18 so I was never around during the height of Prince's career and I wasn't old enough to truly appreciate music when CD's had more relevance but I don't really have that much trouble finding Prince's music in stores on CD. Infact the only Prince discs I had to get online were Emancipation and New Power Soul. I have almost rest of his discography and got the CD's from visiting stores like FYE, Best Buy, and Barnes and Nobles. While it's true I got a couple of them used, there was an abundance of these CD's at each of the stores, and at several different locations. In fact, everytime I visit a music store, I see tons of copies of his albums from Purple Rain - Batman (except Lovesexy), The Rainbow Children, and Planet Earth for sale. And then a couple of best of discs to add to it. While music stores are closing and all, all of the places that sell CDs that I visit have a pretty good selection of Prince songs and albums. I just hope his next album joins them in those shops :/ Purple is the color of my heart,

I may be a but I totally agree with Snake. Dropping the occasional tune on the net that disappears just as quickly simply isn't the same as holding an LP in your hands. I don't know about the US, but in Holland there are still record shops for vinyl and CD lovers. Maybe not as many as before, but there's still a market for it. Prince may have no time for old people, but when he looks down from the stage he must see that most of his fans are 35-45 and those are still loyal album buyers! [Edited 8/15/13 1:06am]

Has been like this for a few years now. I miss the albums too, but there are benefits to this method as well. Seems we get a new Prince song every month or two now, rather than waiting a year for a whole stack at once. Can't blame him for slowing down. He's in his mid-50s and still releases more music than most. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

As someone that used to haunt record stores, I can relate to your alienation towards today's iTunes/downloading music experience. It just doesn't have the same satisfaction of searching and finding that perfect album that somehow speaks to you at that particular moment. Music was once a more social experience, that has been replaced by one person clicking a mouse. Even the smallest towns would have a record store you could visit and be transported to other worlds through the power of music created by actual musicians with a vision. I guess it's cest la vie, and move on with the times but I do miss those days. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

I'm from New York. We haven't had a proper record store in about 7 years. Virgin was the last major here. The best option after that was Disc-O-Rama and they even shuttered some locations. So find me a record shelf to pine over. Also for a fan base that spent years amassing illegal bootlegs numbering in the thousands on every form of musical medium(cassetes, vinyl, CDs & digital) where you actually had to get dressed and roam around the streets this is just whiny. If you can manage to unearth Prince.Org then any current running Prince site is a click away. If you just hate digital then say just that but stop making it sounds like you had to travel thru seven circles of hell to find "Groovy Potential". When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

i wish i was into it ... cus i do miss music ... i listen to spotify and sirius alot ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Just like most of you, I wish P released physical CD's/ Vinyls to have them too. I've lost track of the new material.
Can anyone make a track list of what he has officially released lately?
There are tracks like Rich Friends that I can't classify...

The OP was talking about new music and I'm assuming he's referring to Prince's new music. The newest track is "Groovy Potential". It's available on the 3rdEyeGirl website for those of you who can handle clicking on the link to locate it.

As for not being able to find a CD over a download I wasn't aware that was a Prince exclusive issue in this day and age. Actually if the OP hadn't put this thread in this forum we'd have no idea who he was talking about at all.

Just wait a year or two, maybe 3. Then you can print your own LP's

The Point is it's too much work now days. Pay for a song, download the song, organize a list, burn a CD. I mean it's like going to a restaurant and cooking your own meal. The only work a customer should do is Pay. 1725topp said:

He does what he wants and that is why we love him. Enjoy the ride. The internet is our record store now. I think he is realizing that.
It is nice to finally see videos on youtube, especially live ones. Even if it is Trevor or whoever in his camp is holding the camera. The quality is amazing.

While a lot of fans are willing to shell out for a physical CD there are a lot who are equally cheap and won't. Even the OP doesn't want to order thru the mail. Physical CDs cost money to make and booklets as well. That cost will be passed onto the customers. 3EG is cheap, effective and serves it's purpose. A place that sells used CDs usually does not also sell new CDs, so his new music would STILL have to be carried by a real music shop, which are greatly diminishing in most parts of the world. Maybe some bigger cities still have a few. I stand by my ealrier assertion.
