I can't stand his whole 2000's work except "Musicology" which is IMO one of his funkiest work.

I find The Rainbow Children far more deep and funky than Musicology, but it is interesting how so many others think otherwise.

I don't love every single second of every single album, but there's not one album without at least a couple of songs I love.

So yeah, I certainly enjoy and revisit some albums more than others, but I appreciate everything as it fits into the grand scheme of things (or the "grand progression" so to speak ha ha).

Nice, renfield. I must admit, me putting My Little Pill as something I "like" is stretching it a bit, but like you suggest, in the context/grand scheme of The Vault: OF4S, it's quite okay.

Well put. I'll just add that so far, I still love about seventy-five percent of every Prince album, and that includes work from 2000 to today. In fact 2004, 2009, and 2013 have all been as exciting and pleasing as my time in the Eighties.

I enjoy most of his albums-a couple are not my taste. It's usually a choice in how he produces his work that can be not my taste. But, Prince hasn't put a bad record out, but there are some boring ones (I'm not complaining though.). I like this new/old groove thing his into right now. I'm curious and excited to see where it goes.

The Warner albums are superior to the post Gold Experience albums...

I think your original statement reads as though there is at least one Prince album where you only like the one song on it, whereas of course there are other Prince albums where you likely enjoy more than one song. You could tell me, since you're the one who said it. What is the one Prince album where you only like one song? I simply questioned why the ratio sounded so low. Enjoying "at least one song per album" is hardly a feat to be proud of. By contrast, enjoying at least 75 per cent of every Prince album, as in the case of 1725topp, sounds more like it.

I'm with you on this. My favorite P's output changes daily and yes I enjoy N.E.W.S., and Kamasutra.

Yes, me!!!

TC Ellis' album, though, had waaay to little to do with Prince to be considered a Prince album.

All except Planet Earth.

Not all of them, but a good 75% of his studio albums are perfectly listenable ( 3 stars or more). And of the ones that are not, there are at least 1 or 2 decent or very good tracks that I will listen to anytime.

About half of his albums and all of his 1980s output bar one album (Batman) I could listen through in entirety and its this high level that he maintained through the 80s that leads me to making him my favourite artist.

Pretty much all of his music to Lovesexy I really enjoy (For You is still enjoyable, if not very good)

From Batman to Chaos and Disorder its generally good too, but there are high points (Gold Experience) and Low points (Kamasutra, Batman)

Emancipation to Musicology was his low point quality wise, none of the albums in this period raise above the mire except Crystal Ball and then that's mostly older stuff. Some better albums are The Vault and better songs on Emancipation. TRC and NEWs on the other hand are virtually unlistenable, and Newpowersoul is his weakest album ever and TRC his most offensive, his nadir.


Musicology to now, the quality level is average, respectable and polite, but no real excitement, cookie cutter albums, with a good overall sound and one or two great songs like Dreamer, Black Sweat etc. Best of this period are 3121 and Lotusflow3r. Planet earth is not that bad and 20Ten is the worst from this period, but its still okay overall. 3rd eye girl is similar, nothing new or exciting beyond curiosity and a few decent songs like Groovy Potential.

But for me it was that first decade that will always endear me to him and the Gold Experience, because that album was excellent.

This is why I can't respect certain peoples opinions here.
