I wonder what he was referring to when he mentioned don cornelius and rick james in the lyrics to there will never be another like me and where he was going with that. has anyone else noticed that rick james mention in that track because i know that I am the very first to post about it.

just like he gave a shoutout to rick james on the bootleg cd musicology tour 8/10/2004 when he strapped on the bass and said "Rest in Peace rick james" and then went into the bassline to give it to me baby....see, prince had nothing against rick......

Peeps here & other places, try to make Prince out to be a mean & uncaring person. Prince knows that Rick was partly responsible & played a role in the start of his career. He acknowledges it in his own lil way. He also has added MJ songs to his regular rotation tour playlist.

well, I posted this as a tribute to rick james since i missed seeing the original stone city band show last saturday. I heard that it was a good show and their guitarist tom had a mean solo and that he was a bad boy....

Yeah, all you have to do is look at this concert and see how much Rick's bad boy of rock and roll image influenced Prince. Of course, Rick borrowed ideas (and keyboards) from Prince as well.

and rick toke the prince guitar riff from sexy dancer and put it in below the funk (pass the joint) and thats why i love that track. thats probably the funkiest track that rick ever did and i know cuz i made a thread about it a couple of months ago and it got plenty responses....rick james fans get mad at me for saying that but the guitar in below the funk (pass the joint) is the exact same chords as sexy dancer...

Not sure if it's been mentioned above - but there is a video on youtube where Don Cornelius interviews Rick James (on Soul Trian), and can't remember exactly, but Don and Rick have a sort of battle of wills (in a fun way), when egos collide. Maybe that's wha P was referencing?

damn, nobody aint interested in my thread regarding prince giving shoutouts to rick james......I actually liked rick james because he brought the funk especially with below the funk (pass the joint), money talks, and high on your love/one more hit.

the stone city band just posted a petition to get rick james in the hall of fame but I dont think that he needs to be inducted even though i really liked rick james, he just didnt have that kind of impact.

i remember listening to an interview that matt fink did back in 2005 and he talked about how rick stole his authentic jailhouse suit during the fire it up tour and how prince asked him to come with another idea (the doctor scrubs) and you can see in the video at 6:19 that this was the jailhouse suit that was used during the fire it up tour with prince........
