I need a break from "Let's Go Crazy"

Is "Let's Go Crazy" the song Prince has performed most times live?

This used to be one of my favourite cuts, but I just can't seem to be moved by it anymore, even the re-loaded version isn't doing it for me.

It's the only track from Purple Rain that I'm tired of hearing, so I'm going on a LGC holiday. wink

Anyone else got a classic track they've gotten tired of?

Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

I'd have a really LONG list of classic songs I'm bored with, but I think the winners are:

Take Me With U / Raspberry Beret

Someone started a "Most Songs Performed" thread last month.

http://prince.org/msg/7/399176

Most of us think it's probably "When U Were Mine" or something from PR or "Controversy" are among the most performed.

er

Guys, he did the entire Parade, Nude and Love 4 OneAnother/New Power Soul tours without ever playing LGC. But Purple Rain is always on the list. And also the one I am tired of.

I got tired of it live during DnP tour, along with 1999, Baby I'm A Star and Purple Rain. Never, ever tire of them on record though.

"Let's Go Crazy RELOADED", is a BADASS rock/blues arrangement that is less danceable but has a heavier groove. I'm glad he changed the arrangement. The new version doesn't sound so dated. "RELOADED" is in the spirit of Cream or Led Zepplein and it's a welcome change to me. Better than the "Go, Go" chants.

He's probably played Purple Rain most often, but Let's Go Crazy could very well be the second one on the list. I actually went to a show on the "Welcome 2 Europe" tour two years ago when he didn't play Let's Go Crazy. I didn't mind. I'm actually envious of people that haven been to those shows of his when he has not done Purple Rain.

Yeah, I'm really bored of the Take Me With U / Raspberry Beret medley. Has it been on his sets, the two songs performed one after another, since 1997 or something? He could stop doing Nothing Compares 2 U too. bored

I still love the original LGC as an opener, without the go, go, go part, just the basic version. Give it love, give it time, but don't drag the damn thing out forever.

*

*

Raspberry Beret and Cream are not my favorite songs, so I'm okay with not hearing those again.

*

*

I've said before and I'll say again, it's a delicate balance. Old songs, new songs, mixing it up, playing it straight forward. IMHO, the balance is out of wack. My first show was a marathon, and I really don't expect those now, although Prince has done 3-ish hours recently. In the first show I saw, the first "half" was very scripted and focused on the current LP (The Symbol LB). The second "half" was just WILD! Older stuff played freely with NO MEDLEYS. IMHO that would still work now, even in a shorter version.

I'm firmly planted in denial

Purple rain is the one i need a break from, i get that in a way he has to play it but i can't wait for it to be over when he does.

Diamonds & pearls & Nothing compares have never been my cuppa tea either.

I am tired of the song also, in reality I was never a big fan of the song at all.

But it is a pefect opener.. just as he opened his movie with it.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life"

I might be tired of the song, but I will NEVER be tired of that guitar solo at the end.

you can tell Prince Loves to Rock that solo.

The reloaded version is okay, I'm sure it gets boring as fuck playing the same songs for decades.

Didn't "Let's Gor Crazy" begin life at a slower tempo and was speeded up for the released version?

Sure I read that somewhere, or maybe I dreamt it smile

I'm not a fan of the slow version of LGC, but I love the song and haven't tired from it yet. However, I like the slow down version of LRC. But again, I like the "hits" as much as the obscure songs.

I'm tired of most of the hits. I do lke the slowed down version of "Little Red Corvette" though. And I'd love to hear him do a full version of "When Doves Cry."

The thing about LGC is the entire song is a build up to the guitar solo which is a release. Prince has never been able to reproduce the recorded solo in a live performance. Its all about the silence then that long blistering, sustained note.

I like the song, but - how can I put it - I think it's one of my least favorite from his 80s work. But mind that in the 80s he did virtually only great songs in my opinion. So, it's a good song, but I rather hear many others as show openers. My least favorite from Purple Rain for sure. A classic album, all good songs, but it's the weaker.

Off his more rock oriented songs, Let's pretend we're married, Uptown, Darling Nikki, Lovesexy, When you were mine, America, I could never take the place of your man, Electric chair, Peach, Bambi, Jack u off, Temptation, She's always in my hair, Play in the sunshine... are all better imo.

YES! This.

biggrin

It would be cool if he went back to performing the full version again, including the full intro, not just the "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to get through this thing called life".

I hated the "go go go " chant version that he did a few years ago but Let´s Go Crazy will always be one of my favorite songs. Except for "Baby I´m A Star" there´s not a single song on Purple Rain that I could ever get tired of.

He has played that song on several tours. Don't know which tours you've seen, but if you go back to the DM tour to present, he has played it a lot. "Controversy" is up there too. I think he started playing it during the DM tour.
