Show some love for The Batman Album!

I've always thought this album was under appreciated by Prince fans. I mean sure, the album is nothing groundbreaking and for many it might even be the beginning of the end for Prince's creativity but I can't get enough of the songs on the album! Today I didn't have time to put much music on my iPhone before running out for the day and I only had Batman, Rave, and some random assortment of Nirvana and Bowie on my phone so as I was walking, I put Batman on and got lost in the music.

The Future is a wonderful tune, with an infectious beat that always gets stuck in my head. Electric Chair is amazing and, in my opinion, should have been performed by 3rdeyegirl during the LOL Tour. Arms Of Orion was a song that I never cared for but whatever, I'm sure somepeople are into it. Partyman is a classic, Vicki Waiting is among my favorite Prince songs, Trust and Lemon Crush are both insanely catchy pop songs with memorable hooks, Scandalous is one of Prince's best songs, and Batdance is a dated, gimmicky track at times, but also extremely fun to listen too.

Overall, this album is awesome! It's not too engrossing but just a ton of fun to listen to and I love how the production of some of the songs remind me of Sign o The Times in how raw and underproduced it sounds at points.

Who else thinks this album is great?
Purple is the color of my heart,
Bruised from you leaving me.

The Batman sountrack is an excellent and superb gem! Although it is labled a soundtrack it really is a strong album with a vast amount of great songs and classic tracks. I love the good vs evil, light vs. dark themes scattered throughout the record amoungst the funky and fun tracks like Partyman, Trust and Batdance. I can listen to Prince's "Batman" over and over and still get the same thrill I felt back in '89 when it was released.

I also love all the 12" mixes and bsides and the videos!

Long Live the Purple Bat!

P.S. I'm jamming the 12" mix of Trust now!!

I like it. I don't consider it one of his best or worst. Middle of the pack. Solid album.

Nope--let's make a Batman triple disc thread!!!

We'll expand it, for songs for the next two Batman films--Batman and Robin can just play Jughead through the whole thing, so it doesn't need anything.

I think I posted something real on a similar thread. But if not--I like it. I honestly don't get the hate for "The Arms of Orion"--I like the instrumental extensions of the Scandalous Sex Suite better than the album version--I love Electric Chair--Partyman is just okay. The Future is okay. Vicki Waiting always pleases me--what's the deal with the longer version that started making the rounds a couple of years ago? Trust--I actually like it better than Baby, I'm a Star, which it apparently replaced in early production of the film. Lemon Crush is I think a fine little song. Batdance... I got no problem with it. Lots of different Princes in one track, even if I remain amazed that it was a hit (and I know it was probably just the whole Bat-phenomenon that accounts for that).

I also have got to say that the thread linking to that synopsis of the film based only on the Prince album is worth looking at if you haven't yet. Fun stuff.

I feel ya.

That said i really dig the album and it gets unecessary hate. Arms of Orion gets appropriate hate, but not the rest of the record.

I have tried, but it contains probably his worst ever single release..

"The Arms Of Orion"

To me, it kills the album stone dead after the promising opening of the first two cuts.disbelief

Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

I think you hit the nail on the head, Jony. Dance with the Devil would have been the saving grace for this, his first dissapointing album. It was the first time a Prince CD didn't make me go WOW!!! music headbang thumbs up! excited faint clapping

The drum programme to The Future is one of his coolest, slamming beats. Good enough to lead the first (and best) section of the Nude concerts.
Electric Chair is a fine piece of futuristic, metal funk.
Arms of Orion is a total pile of baby spew, the first song in his career to make me doubt his other worldliness.
Digged Partyman at the time but I hate it now, soulless nonsense.
Vicki Waiting is probably his most under appreciated tune. His vocals are cool and sleazy.
Trust and Lemon Crush are decent enough. Scandalous is beautiful, like slowly getting drunk on wine.
Batdance is what it is, I love it.
Overall a good solid 7/10 album. I certainly didn't see Graffiti Shite coming.

It's a middle of the road album. Not his worst and certainly not his best. Though 'The Future' is one of my favourites.

Yes there are mixes of Trust. With the exception of the album vetsion, they are all mixed by Shep Pettibone and are as follows.

1. Trust - Album version 4:23
2. Trust - 12" Extended Remix 8:14
3. Trust - w/ intro hand clap 4:18
4. Trust - New vocal eq mix 4:17
5. Trust - 12" Dub version

I have the "promo" (boot) CD single. From what I recall and please correct me if I'm wrong, the mixes were completed and ready for release as next single but it never made it.

The cd single is in a card sleeve with photo of Prince on cover at the boards in studio during Batman period and all song info on back. It's obviously not official...it's labled on back as "promo".

I love the 12" extended mix! It's fun, energetic and infectious. It has the feel of La, La, La Hee, Hee, Hee, The Partyman mixes and extended mix of The Latest Fashion. It's quite a jam.

I wish it was officially released.

I adore The Arms Of Orion. It's a gorgeous song and absolutely love Prince's vocals in the song. Very humble and sweet and he and Sheena compliment each other quite well. To me the song is not cheesy. For me it's a beautiful love song with a mature and whimsical sound and feel. Love it!

Yep, pretty much how I feel. I like the interplay of the voices, I love when he drops into the low voice. I don't care much for some of the instrumental synth stuff toward the end, but the song as a whole is very nice.

BATMAN...

BATMAN by PRINCE!

ELECTRIC CHAIR was and is the tune.

Remember when he played "Electric Chair" for the SNL Anniversary show?

I do. He tore it up! I love that performance.
