Am I the only one who felt a LoveSexy-type vibe coming through on here? Lots of layers, very uplifting wall of sound...nice and long and drawn out...yeah baby...

I find it to be a totally different tune than Sheryl Crow's version--they sound nothing alike. I wonder, though, if that's what spoiled it for many people?

The truth about "Everyday Is A Winding Road" is that Prince took "possession" of it. He changed it so much that it became unrecognizable. He made it his. I think a lot of folks were disappointed cause of the Larry insert...I don't know.

You should have heard the guitar heavy versions he was playing at Paisley Parties long before Rave came out. I don't know why he went with the disco version when the live "rock" version kicked so much ass.

He and Sheryl even performed it at a club in Minneapolis together

I really like Prince's version of this song. I hum this one way more than the Sheryl Crow version, matter of fact, I was just humming this one today here at work! It's all a matter of taste. I would have liked the Prince version even if I had never heard the Sheryl Crow version. But to be real honest, I don't dig Sheryl's version. It's a good version, but I just don't like the guitar pop/rock stuff too much, and I am a sucker for new funk and disco, so you know my choice was obvious. I agree with you on this one, Teller!

Mr. Teller, I must confess, I do like it. One of the many 'moments' on a record that could have been so much more than what it actually is. Interesting, albeit tenuous, link with Lovesexy. You've made me listen to this again...

Damn, so i'm not the only one. People on here are always dogging this track out. I like it. I liked the Crow version too. Prince takes the song and does something Crow couldn't do and that is make it FUNKY!

I don't find it funky, I find it goofy.

it would work well with Wayne Newton In vegas.

This is one of those times...people simply cannot let go of the link to Sheryl Crow and take it as is. I won't be able to penetrate some of y'all disgust for this song, so you're excused.

Those of you who like it...give it a spin and tell me it doesn't have similar spiritual vibe to LoveSexy, that it doesn't have as many thick layers of instrumentation as LoveSexy, and it's not as synth-sounding as LoveSexy...

I thought it was funky. He went somewhere different with it. It's not 'classic' material, but it is a lot of fun.

Sheryl Crow's version is too laid back for my liking. I like the way Prince's version has a real anthemic quality about it. The chorus is very powerful.

I also thought the Larry Graham insert of 'Everyday people' was quite cool and inspired.

Ultimately, it's just a feel good funky jam to bob your head and dance to. I enjoy it and accept it for what it is.
It is a similar case with the 'New Power Soul'album.

THE FUNNY THING IS, when Prince tries to OUT-DO other artists on their own work, or try to "make a point" to others, he sucks.

It's like in the 90's he got a complex, or felt the heat, and had to REACT to others, instead of just doing his own thing! I never thought I would see the day when I would get Prince "cover versions", likw "One of Us", or "Everyday is a Winding Road", when he has more than enough material of his own in the vaults.

What's that about?
