I love the group, my issue is they should have struck when the fire was hot in 86. They chose not too. To try to have Prince co sign some shit years later is BS..

they tried. Prince kept that at home rehearsing endlessly.(read up your Prince history smile

Soundcloud and Youtube probably jump as soon as someone with any clout complains about rights issues. If I had a compnay like that and that large I'd probably jump too.

The relevant part to me is that he may have the right to shut it down (the Family stuff) but why does he have to have people on it so tight? Will it casue him problems in court? No. Will he lose money? No. Will it cause him any creative issues or any ownership problems? No.
So if you eliminate the obvious reasons why an artist would have their people causing issues (whether specifically or randomly) you have to start looking at personality issues. Whether it is Prince or anyone else.

Still was ther choice to leave. I know my history pretty well. Its also my understanding that once MCA offered Paul the deal he bounced. If not for Questlove asking them to reform several years back this woud be a non issue..

The Time made such a fuss about their name for the Condensate cd but yet did nothing to promote shows etc..

Its his shit..for better or worse he can do with it as he pleases..to constantly try to fight it is crazy..And yes, there is a big difference between the groups, There txtx for City Winery in chicago hav been on sale for a while while his show was booked, sold and played within hours. for them to continue crying about it makes them look like victims.. I hate grown victims

Prince is such a douche when it comes to this shit. It's totally personal too, because does Sheila's stuff get taken down, nope. Does Sinead seek his permission to perform or have Nothing Compares 2 on her Soundcloud account? Or Chaka....or the Bangles....etc. He will bully anyone who has had the nerve to call him out on his shit. You want to talk grown victims? They weren't walking around with SLAVE on their faces and then acting like a slave MASTER to anyone who crossed his path. They weren't trying to SELL the first album, it was on their account for people to listen to, and they all made that album what it is not just Prince. He gave them the basic tracks and they polished them up with David Z., so it's not like were talking Vanity 6 here, these guys made these tracks what they are, and the famous strings by Clare Fischer were Susannah's idea and then they went from there. I love how some fans think Prince is the be all and end all of everything he did that was good. I've seen behind the curtain, and Oz, he is not.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

They are just as childish as they claim Prince to be. Some of the personal shit they've been spouting over the last year or so has helped them to get to the point they are now. Actions have consequences

Move on to some stellar creativity and fight with music - not words

That is all.

Without trying to appear like I drank a gallon of purple koolaid with some extra lemon juice thrown in, I'm curious, does anyone know if it has been confirmed that Prince actually had the songs removed from Soundcloud or did someone from his camp (i.e. people he has working for him), take down those songs without his knowledge? Could there have been a misunderstanding of some sort, and do any of the former associates check with his camp first, before posting on their FB or Twitter sites, that he actually had songs taken down? I'm only asking because it would seem that if they didn't check to see if he actually had the songs removed, without confirmation that he did, then when they post that type of info on their FB pages, they have to know their comments would reach Prince's fans, which opens the door for harsh criticism about it, even when fans don't have evidence that he actually had the songs taken off.

Dr. Funkenberry said it could have been a misunderstanding. Prince is obviously focusing on getting the band ready for Montreux right now, so I doubt this is at the forefront of his mind. But who knows.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Oh.. come on... don't pretend the members of the band had significant input on the Family album. Leeds probably had a say in his own lines, but other than that it was all Prince. St Paul and Susannah sang to Prince's guide vocals and tried to copy him to the best of their abilities. Clare Fischer wasn't part of the band. It was Susannah's idea to use strings, you say. Well, according to her. It's not like Prince didn't know about Fisher's work with Chaka Khan and Rufus from before. rolleyes

You would be surprised at how much attention he does pay to things like Prince.org according to those who have been or are in his band. We've all seen the letters from his Managemnt/assistants to people on youtube. He's probably a dick but I still love his music.

As a matter if fact, to dispell this rumour that Prince didn't record, i went back and listened to a rehearsal from 85 or 86 and Prince goes to eric, "what are yoou doing"., eric says something unintellible and Prince goes , "i stacked 6 horns on the reocrd here, can i get at least one now"...Surely eric woud have knowm if he did all the recording

None, as far as I know. But I'm guessing Soundcloud just took everything down in response to Prince's legal notice.

Prince seems to have a personal vendetta against them and the Time. Sheila's videos never get taken down.

When a member of the group publicly states that they HATE U................Prince took it seriously.

My opinion of course.

i never heard that. sad sad maybe tbat person just felt that way in the heat of the moment and then got quoted on it forever and ever in a kind of media echo way. i'm pretty sure most of us have felt a flash of anger like that at one point or another only to have that feeling cool out and leave after a while

This was recent.

Then why is Sinead's Nothing Compares 2 U still available everywhere from Youtube to Soundcloud?? Same for Chaka's I Feel 4 U and The Bangles' Manic Monday. He has a hair up his ass when it comes to the Time and the Family. They, along with David Z., helped make that album what it is and it is sad that Prince has to be so pety and this is all about control, nothing else.

I would assume he doesn't control the master recordings of Sinead, the Bangles and Chaka's covers..you are talking two different scenarios.. Nice try.. and lastly, so what if he has a bug up his ass.. Let them create something else.

"If you don't own your master, then your master owns you." Odd that someone who has cried about the slave owners has no problem treating people the same way. The Time or the Family playing the old songs and making new music hurts who exactly? No one. It's all about control for Prince don't be fooled into thinking it's about anything else. I also love how people make it seem like he has no idea what his legal people are doing lol lol Just like how in the new V magazine interview he had no memory of trashing The Roots' guitar player's guitar. Agreed! Prince didn't like this kind of treatment from Warner Bros. back in the 90's, so why is it ok for him to treat his friends like this today? People seem to think Prince rose to the top all on his own... it takes a team of people to create the success Prince has generated. Now, he doesn't even want to thank that team of people... let alone acknowledge them with any kind of respect!

You would think that at age 55, such pettiness would be beneath him. I guess jehovah encourages this kind of behavior in the kindgom hall he attends. Makes me glad that I am 2 things: 1. Not his friend and 2. Not a jehovah's witness.

Maybe one day, when the fans are tired of his bullshit, he will realize that it was stupidity like this, that chased all the real fans away.

While I am not happy that Prince chose to take the action he did (and ultimately it is Prince's doing because those taking down the music are doing so with his okay) your post drew me to respond to it.

While I am glad Prince has had people along for the ride like Wendy and Lisa and the Family, I feel Prince would have done okay for himself all by his lonesome. He has whole albums, some of his best, that he no input from anyone.

The remarks about his faith are uncalled for. Whether you were justified in calling Prince on his actions, you cannot blame those actions on his faith.

At the end of the day, he wrote the songs on the Family's album. What he chooses to do with those songs is up to him. As a real fan of his music, I've decided that I have to leave the pettiness of the rest of it alone.

Uncalled for? I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were the designated religion police officer of the org.

I made those comments, because Prince's personal behavior is not reflective, of the jw religion he studies. In other words, he is a hypocrite. If I was the head honcho of the jw organization he is representing, I would pull him aside and tell him to nip this petty behavior in the bud. But, I guess as long as his 10% tithe is building a new wing on the back of his elder's crib... this type of behavior can be overlooked.

And even though you are correct about Prince writing the songs on the Family's original album (sans "River Run Dry"), he had no input on fDeluxe's current music (which was also pulled down) and happens to be the real issue of this thread.

We all know his religious beliefs and I stand by my statement of calling him out on this behavior. If Prince himself has a problem with my statement, he is more than welcome to knock on my door for a bible study.

Then maybe FDeluxe themselves had them pulled down....and will them back up soon....either way, no worries, I'm sure they will appear again.
