Let's hear it for For You!

This LP often gets overlooked because everything that came after it was so much better.
But... when you listen to it, imagine it is 1978 and you've heared Curtis, Marvin, Stevie and this is the very first album you hear from a teenage debutant. And then you can only say one thing: this is avery impressive piece of work.
Whenever I hear For You, I always get the feeling that everything that makes Prince "Prince" was already there on his first album. He just needed to develop it. But really, nothing much has changed. He just got better and better.
So let's show some love to the firstborn!

I thought it was a pretty cool synth album(loooved the jam at the end of just as long as we're together), but then I heard I'm yours and was blown away by the RAWK! I knew he was one to watch from then on.

I liked im yours because not only was it a jam session but it seemed like his bass and guitar skills were competing against each other and as long as were together is as close to earth, wind, and fire as you can get despite wb wanting maurice white to produce his first lp and prince standing up by saying NO.....smart move!

I think the best songs on for you were Soft and Wet, Just As Long As We're Together, My Love Is Forever, I'm Yours, and So Blue. You have to admit that for a debut album, this album is amazing! Also, this was where Prince started developing the themes for his future albums. 5/5 smile

I always overlooked it. So Blue hit me like a ton of bricks not long ago and now I can agree that the album has some shining moments.

I like it. I lean more toward the softer songs on it--For You, Crazy You, So Blue. The others sometimes seem to be trying too hard and somehow not succeeding. Though I do like In Love. I don't hate anything.

I love this record. If it was the only album he had ever made, I would still be a fan. A really good one.
