Why was Prince arrested in Jackson in 1980?

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151757375523714&set=a.325858998713.190826.627618713&type=1&theater

not sure if anyone can see this pic...not sure how else to post it. I can email it to someone but it's a mugshot of him from circa 1980. Saw it at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston and took a snapshot.

It's a photo shopped promo pic from IWBYL single?, iirc.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

This is the story posted by an orger a while back... Yes he and Fink were detained for trying to nab a megaphone from an airplane back in the day. They were leaving Mississippi to the next gig and P convinced Fink to put it in his bag since he didn't have a carry on. It was a harmless prank, but the lady sitting behind Prince didn't like their sense of humor. So she ratted on him to the flight attendant. After they landed, two large Sky Marshals conducted a search. They found it on Fink and in a stand up move, Prince voluntarily went with him. Seems they were arrested and sent to a local joint, but it turned into a big meet and greet! Prince ended up posing for pictures and signing autographs in jail!

This was a story from the Dez Dickerson book "My Time With Prince". It doesn't say which city they were arrested in.

The picture is from an early Right On! magazine and the mug shot plaque was added by a fan as an April Fool's joke a few years ago. I can't believe the life it has taken on online.

I hate to get into this because it is a traumatic memory for me, but here goes. When I was six years old, my family went on a vacation to Jackson. We were eating at a restaurant and Prince was sitting at the table next to us with a young woman. He left to go to the bathroom, and she ordered a bunch of stuff from the menu while he was out of the room. When Prince came back, he was really angry and he took a bowl of mashed potatoes and threw them all over his date. Some of them got on me as well. He was arrested and I had to testify as a witness for the prosecution, but ultimately he was let off on a technicality.

So, now you know the truth.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Thanx for posting everybody! I was wondering about this too. I once saw this picture on a t-shirt in a shop in Leiden, Holland, together with other shirts with photos of rock stars who really were arrested, such as Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison. The guy in the shop assured me that it was real, but I had never seen or heared this. (btw, at €50 I found the t-shirts a little too expensive so I didn't buy one.)

Incorrect. The incident is genuine, as Kae510 suggests, it was due to an incident on a plane, a photo was taken after arrest by the police but I believe the charges were dropped. It is mentioned in many of the Prince biographies out there.

Interesting. And did Prince then buy the restaurant?

If you go to the Ajax Diner in Oxford, MS, you will see picures (hand-drawn, not photos) of the famous people that have eaten there.

Prince's picture is the first one you'll see!

So I guess Prince played a show at Ole Miss at some point?

Yes, and strangely enough, the mashed potato girl still works there. lol

The incident in question allegedly happened after a show on 32880 (in my home town, New Orleans) on the Rick James Fire it up tour. Headed to the next show in Jackson, Ms.

Whether it's true or not, the story IS in Dez's book. The story spans about 3 pages. Since I'm away from home and can't scan the pages, I took a picture of the last page of the story so folks can see that it is, in fact, in the book. (See the link below.) And I just now noticed Dez's use of "taken" instead of "taking". I guess no one hires an editor anymore. Sigh!
