Prince's Greatest Guitar Solo

Of all the songs that P has put his foot in, what is his greatest guitar moment?

What's underneath your hair,Is anybody living in there?

Agree 100%

So how about his second best? Some contenders: The Ride (the undertaker version, it's so raw & rocking), Fury (SNL version, so cool & flashy), and Kiss (cause it's so funky).

the best solo, imo: "Joy In Repetition".

(from the "One Nite Alone... Live" boxset, the Aftershow cd).

I agree. I love the album version, I should listen to the live one again.

The second solo on "Shhh" from the Beautiful Experience TV-special.

His best use of a guitar solo as an element in a song would be "Joy In Repetition".

First what came to my mind: "While my guitar gently weeps" from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame appearance.

My second favorite might be Little Red Corvette at Coachella.

Although it is great to hear that so many people are impressed by this solo, not only the usual yes-sayers, I find it anyway hard to see why this solo is appreciated the way it does.

I mean, it is more of a great performance than that the solo itself is so special, if you ask me.

But please share your thoughts about why it is so great smile

Why don't you share your thoughts as to why it's nothing special? You seem to be in the minority - defend your position.

CO-SIGN: Before everyone went mental for the Montreux '09 version, he did this.
Unfortunately this wonderful version was largely overlooked because of the hype over his Creep cover.

I love Bambi (Undertaker version) too.

Predictable choice here guys but Computer Blue. the eerie sound of the keyboards bring out that sexy and electrifying sound of his guitar. just hypnotizing.

I like the solo bits at the begining of the ONA Live set, during Rainbow Children and whatnot. Like the Hall of Fame solo, it's not the fireworks that impress but the emotion of the notes played and the images that they conjure up.

Eye Hate U (bleeding into Track 17, NPG Operator)

This solo is so visceral and emotionally raw, it moves me like no other. And acting as the

song's final expression of conflict and anger, the solo is so ugly, loud and perfectly concise that it is simply beautiful.

In full agreement about Just My Imagination, and also While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but allow me to throw in the Bambi solo from 1990 Nude Tokyo.

That one is, without a doubt, the best-looking solo. The hair, the wind machine...it all equals faint

To me, it's 2 different versions of "Empty Room" for different reasons. The solo from the C-NOTE version is my favorite of the two. He expresses such sadness and anguish with the notes and tone. The other version is from Montreux. However, the sadness has long since passed and now he is just plain pissed off. It sounds like he is taking his aggression out on his guitar. Just my 2 cents smile

It's also Just My Imagination for me but a studio track that sprang to mind was...

...Pink Cashmere. Dreamy, lush (might be the added strings), but almost restrained, one of my faves ever cool

Just somewhere in the middle,

That might be my favorite "studio" solo. It really is sublime. nod
