I have a couple:

1) Shhh, Paris Le Grand Journal TV Performance: The solo has some gorgeous nuances that I have not heard in other live versions. The first solo is expanded and tears me up everytime especially if I am watching the video versus just audio. You can really see the crowd is completely mesmerized.

2) She's Always In My Hair: Any of the live versions from the Live Out Loud tour.

3) Erotic City: 1984 Birthday Show: One of the first times I had heard the guitar heavy version. The opening is just so raw.

4) Somebody's Somebody: Simple, no guitar heroics, just beautiful notes and melody

5) LRC Montreaux: Really caught me by surprise. Love it

6) Bambi: Tokyo, Undertaker also

I love the little riff he plays right before the solo.

Just the most recent ones that have a personal meaning to me. I was there and the whole experience is a great lifetime memory.

Werchter - When Hot summer turned in Purple Rain.

NSJF _ Joy in Repetition. That is my all time favorite.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

There is no such thing as "greatest", IMO. It's all subjective. What I think is his greatest probably isn't the same one you think is greatest. We're talking about "favorite" solos. Some of my faves are:

1. Dolphin

2. Computer Blue

3. Pink Cashmere

4. Just My Imagination

5. Batdance

Lots of great suggestions. Top of my head...

Coachella Creep solo.

Eye hate you

Joy In Rep ONA-aftershow - all 3 solos.

While My guitar genlty Weeps

Montreaux Little Red Corvette

ICNTTPOUM - SOTT's movie.

My fave though...

Ivy aftershow 13th May 2012 (roughly 3.30am)

Song: I Could Never Take The Place of Ur Man

He made that new Vox scream sing wail and cry. Adding the fact he seemed to be pissed off with all the iphone's in his face.....seemed to make him angier. And that Vox wailed even more.

lol I know I may catch hell for this but I could listen to the guitar work on Get Off for days. Something about that riff and tone that is infectious. Live version even though its PG'd and short from the Rave DVD is nice

I find this very hard to answer, as there are so many, and as soon as I say one particular solo, up pops another one as a random Prince song comes on and I think, "wow that must be his best guiatr solo ever".

Currently I am liking a lot

The ferocious guitar soloing in "Thunder"

The 15 minute version of Computer Blue, all the guitar and even the 3 minutes of grinding feedback at the end.

The solos on Get It Up by the Time. Prince knew Jesse was an awesome guitar player and just wanted to fuck with him by putting those hard ass solos on there.

The solo at the end of the Holy River

And no doubt there is countless more, Prince is an amazing guitarist and getting me to pick his best ever guitar solo is like asking me to find the finest apple in a truckload of red delicious apples.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

"Purple Rain", Milan 2010 (or was it 2011? I forget) - You might find it online somewhere. It used to be on youtube, but probably not anymore. But that is the best rendition of Purple Rain solo I've heard.

In terms of impact, it's hard to go passed the "WMGGW" at the 2004 RNRHOF. A lot of non-fans are familiar with that solo. Was a great moment.

Another great one is "Fury" on 2006 SNL.

As for studio recordings, "Planet Earth" has an amazing solo. That's the first that comes to mind.
