in any case,I hope that Prince is planning something special for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain.It would be a shame for him to not celebrate that career milestone in some way.

actually Parade and Dream factory music was basically the 5 Revolution members with others adding on in pieces. Eric on some & Atlanta Bliss on some. I don't count the 3 dancers because they weren't on it. ATWIAD had a lot of guests too, same with Parade. include Claire Fischer and orchestra

Had nothing to do with the magic being gone. It wasn't about collaborating it was about "here, add something to something I already did." Them adding stuff to songs he was doing back in the 80's is waaaaaaay different than trying to dress up a song like Lion of Judah, my God, WHERE would ANYONE even start with THAT??
Have him check his ego at the door, and have the 3 of them sit down and create something together. THAT would be the masterpiece so many have waited for from Prince.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

That Masterpiece is not going to happen. WHy? because Wendy and Lisa are not and never have been great songwriters. Prince is past his peak and will never match his best albums again. Only deluded wendy and lisa fans believe otherwise.

As tempting as that bait is, I'll pass, nice try though. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

you will pass because everything i said is 100 percent true. Wendy and Lisa are not great songwriters, never have been and never will be.

Oddly the reason you're here, Prince himself loves their songwriting so you really have no point Has he turned songs over to any other band members as much as he did them? Um...no. It's ok that their skills are lost on you, really it is. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Isn't there a difference between writing a song and adding to a song written by someone else? The wooh is on the one!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That depends on the amount of what that was added to which. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Lisa wrote the music for Power Fantastic and they both did Sometimes it Snows in April, do you see that credit anywhere in ANY liner notes? Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

I wouldn't really want to see a reunion of sorts, but I do agree that this should be celebrated. It was his most popular album along with an ass-kicking movie. I would love to see it celebrated somehow, but I have a feeling he will let us down.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a secret.
By the way, those songs are two of the very few instances where songs Prince and W&L worked on and recorded together ended up on official releases. Other contribution by W&L to officially released material usually came about by sending rolls of tape back and forth between Prince in Minneapolis and W&L i LA (for example the strings added to Raspberry Beret). And even those cases are relatively few and far between.
The method used for recording Planet Earth was very similiar to the method used in the 80's, albeit using new technology. The wooh is on the one!

TBDH, I've gave up on that dream about a Prince & The Revolution reunion album AND tour 3+ years ago. . It's never going to happen.

And that right there is precisely why I wouldn't imagine it would happen. In my opinion, the fact that people would agree that the "magic" would happen in that instance... that fact would make this prospect disinteresting from Prince's perspective. If it's true that part of the reason he fired them was concern that he wanted to be able to show the world and others that he didn't need them (IF it's true), then the idea that the collaberation would be necessary to create that masterpiece would be off-putting. But again, I don't know if the above is true, and this is merely an opinion. I wish Prince should be bankrupt SOON. That'll make him grab so fast for that much longing Purple Rain (remastered) re-release / 30 year anniversary next year, we've all been waiting for for so long. With extra DVD, he'll even 3D, etc. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Cut that shit out, from 1980 - 1986 Lisa Coleman worked closely with Prince not from LA - Minni. She lived with him for a period of time. the Revolution members lived In Minniapolis. LA just had a studio Prince and the band used at times. You make it seem like there was a lot of down time from 1983-1986, there was no way Lisa & Wendy were sitting in LA all that time, and Prince somewhere else, with all that happened. They were in rehearsal or performing most of the time, there are only instances of sending tapes. And Prince was in LA a lot to recording. It was 1983-1986 do you know how long sending music back in forth like that would be? Very different from sending a Planet Earth piece by cyberspace. . You must not know general Prince history during that time, or there is no way you would be able to say that. . Everybody from Susan Rogers, Allan Leeds, Eric Leeds, Bobby Z & Dr Fink noted how much they worked with Prince and the amount of creativity that result

That is besides the point. Its revolution fans that are acting as if the great wendy and lisa were responsible for the majority of the songs that Prince wrote during that time period. They were not
Just because they were "there" does not mean they should be credited for songs that they had nothing to do with.
Bringing them back isn't going to bring back Prince's peak. Its wishful thinking.

respectfully Your post has nothing to do with my reply, I'm not talking about other fans You can't reply to me saying 'that's beside the point' when I bolded the point I wanted to address. This that Paul brought in came from another thread about W&L + Prince sending music back in forth during the Planet Earth songs 2007 I specifically replied to only the bolded part, I'm against people making them or anyone bigger than what they were but also going out of their way to deminish what they were with Prince
. Again we are fans, but when people in the inner circles understand that that was a special relationship from Alan Leeds, Eric Leeds, Dr Fink etc then there is some weight there. And when Prince writes a song of remorse, something not heard often, about their personal and musical relationship almost 10 years later, it probably carries weight.
. Lisa & Wendy were not sitting in LA while Prince was everywhere else snail mailing or next daying tapes to them to add something to...

I'm not saying it never did either.
But it would be a rare thing because of the reality of the happenings of 1983-1986

You guys are just gonna have to pick your favorite outtakes from that period (1984-86) and compile your own Prince and the Revolution album that'll have to do as a "new" album from them, lol
