The only person I like to see retuen is Sheila E...something about them never gets old smile

he does go backwards. I posted some to someone else who said the same. I have a list of examples of Prince going back

But not 4 nostalgia purposes. If that was the case he would have taken full advantage of the year 1999 when it ended. With his hit song named after that year. Prince NEVER does what is expected & NEVER goes back 4 nostalgia purposes. He doesn't have to.

If prince approves maybe the band "The Revolution" can do yet another reunion 2 satisfy their fans next year...But it will never b the same without the "Master" that created it.

I thought he did with that 1999 remaster or remix or whatever it was

Released February 2, 1999
Recorded Paisley Park Studios, 1998

1999: The New Master, is an EP of newly recorded remixes of Prince's 1982 hit, "1999". The EP was released in the year 1999 to take advantage of the song's namesake year. Using the original tracks, Prince added additional music, as well as contributions from a new lineup suspiciously resembling The New Power Generation, including Rosie Gaines, Larry Graham and Doug E. Fresh. The EP was released in the U.S. on CD, as well as a rare purple vinyl 12-inch.

1. "1999" (The New Master) 7:09
2. "Rosario" (1999) 1:19
3. "1999" (The Inevitable Mix) 5:46
4. "1999" (Keep Steppin') 4:33
5. "1999" (Rosie & Doug E. In a Deep House) 6:23
6. "1999" (The New Master: Single Edit) 4:30
7. "1999" (a cappella) 5:11

He should work with them again. Absolutely. It would be the best decision he could possibly make, given his long string of awful ones.

Put together a two record set - the old unreleased stuff on one and a disc of brand new stuff. Tour off of it, make a professional dvd and enjoy making more $$ than he's seen in years.

Eye mean as far as him capitalizing on all the endorsement deal offers he received 2 use 1999. It was whole news segments dedicated to how Prince can make millions out of all the offers he received for the end of the millennium. But Prince passed on all of them to the shock of everyone.. He doesn't go back!Even though Eye also feel it was because he didn't want to share profits of it with the WB who still owned the master of 1999 at the time..

that last line is probably the real reason.

If that wasn't in the way, HE WOULD HAVE WENT BACK lol

but he still did to a smaller degree by doing this with 1999, which I wish he wouldn't have

GOD I HOPE SO!

the last GEEAT Prince record that was fully realized was Sign O the Times and the only reason it was so great was because it's bones were mainly Revolution backed tracks. Yeah, he pulled the Revolution out of tracks like Strange Relationship, but it was still very clearly a Revolution record. At the time there was no internet. I was clueless to the fact that it was really The Dream Factory reworked. I was clueless to the fact that a lot of those sessions spawned Sign O the Times, but it made sense because that was the last album that blew me away. THe last record that was GREAT from beginning to end. The last classic feel record that didn't have one throw away track on it. Every song was amazing. Just like Parade, Around the Wolrd In A Day, Purple Rain and 1999. Of course I learned to love Lovesexy because I was still a hardcore and loyal Prince fan in 1988. He hadn't made enough career destroying decisions at that point and I stll had the FAN in my blood enough to overlook his mistakes and stick with him. Although, I remember listening to songs like Dance On and Eye No thinking that they were jumbles and kinda messy. It was the first time since loving Prince where I had to try hard to love a record. Lovesexy and the Black Album, Prince held onto that dark expiramental side which really made him interesting and I think that Wendy and Lisa had instilled in him a drive to push the creative envelope. So it stuck with him a few years, but slowly that drive faded until he released the Symbol, Diamonds and Pearls, Gold and Chaos and Disorder which were total and all complete disasters. The pop stuff was really cheesy with small sprinkles of genius but nothing was fully realized. It was either really off and messy or it was super duper pop fluff with cheeesy wannabe 80's sound. When I think of Prince & the Revolution I think of the Beatles or the Rolling Stones of funk. Classic, edgy and artistic. This is how I see Prince. I'm not saying my opinion is the cold hard truth. It's just how I see it. I Know that there are a lot of people who like his music and that's perfectly fine. I just prefer thee older stuff.

Wendy & Lisa are highly capable musicians and composers in their own right.
And, they appear to have matured and become better with age.
Bobby still considers himself one of Prince's best friends.
A reunion would totally work out if we considered the 'other' members of the

Revolution.

However, Prince has become a better guitarist, and a more

in 'control' musician on stage. He's in top for at age 55.
Yet, this does not change the fact that he doesn't appear

any more enlightenned or mature than he did when he

was 30. When Sheila E., a relentlessly professional

and hard working musician walks away from touring

with you, that says something.

I have to conclude that W&L have stopped taking hard drugs

and probably only dabble in occasional gateway drugs like

smoking joints, while Prince obviously has tried to hold

on to his youth by still consuming heroin, which keeps

him thinner, and acid which aids his creativity. Either way

I'm not sure the crackhouse that is Paisley park would be

a good environment for Wendy and Lisa these days.

True! But peeps started saying MJ couldn't make a good album without Quincy...So he ditched him! Just like Prince ditched The Revolution The name is PRINCE & The Revolution.

Prince made four albums by himself before them. Eye think this thread discredits Prince's talent & contributions. Prince went on & made many more hits after The Revolution disbanded as a one man band.

Stop. Please. At first I thought it was kind of cute. In a board that is filled with so much hate about the Artist, I was thinking, "Look at this guy trying to really give some shine to the man."

.

But, to deny the role that individuals had in the Revolution and their contributions to the sound and albums... It's just... no.

.

I think Wendy has said it best. He may have been the maestro, but they were the band. And that means more than just a backing band. That means that their individual techniques, influences, all of that helped contribute not just to the aesthetic, but to the creation of the music as well. Specifically, Wendy' and Lisa's contributions during this time period CANNOT be denied.

They weren't just a band. They inspired, shaped, and contributed to the actual music.

I'll give you all of that but let's keep it all in context of Prince's career. The Revoltuion existed in it's most popular form for two albums total and then the larger form for Parade(nobody here is clamoring for that configuration to get reunited. Greg, Wally & Jerome? I'll pass.). Prince has ten times as many releases than that for his whole career. He's had band members last longer than Wendy Melvoin's tenure. They were a good mesh of individuals but not exactly the be all and end all of his career.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

HonestMan- No disrespect. For real. You are a cool dude. But I am specifically addressing that "The Revolution" was just a backing band.

I'm not suggesting that they have entirely defined his career and that he is less talented a musician without them. I am specifically just defending against this insult that they were just a backing band. That is all.

Be all end all of his career? Probably not.

But those individuals WERE The Revolution. A distinct personality, with a distinct influence on his music, and not just some revolving door of musicians who could be replaced like another backing tour band for let's say Rihanna.

The chances are very much 'NO'.

He's too busy now with his three eyed young women.

Still, next year it's 30 years since Purple Rain.

One can only hope he will do something with that.. just for us.

The fans.

The long time fans.

The ones who keep him going.

The ones who always kept him going.

Through all these bad bad times, old hits played all over again, weak albums, shitty choices, and most of all...

...all those great moments of crazy Princeness we all love so much and keep on looking forward to.

He should do something for his purple crazy followers, the yeay and the nay sayers.

Just this once.

With the only thing that ever made him big, in pop and music history, and it's going to need a great 30th anniversary next year !

Like a 30 song extra Purple Rain album or something...

I know there isn't enough material, but he could throw in some great live recordings, whatever...

Or/and, a huge media hyped one off reuninion with his old Revolutionairees who helped out making him what he is today, big and respected, free, crazy and stupid. smile
Prince, are you listening ?

I need to wake up. wink

Let's assume that Prince does not personally get along well with some of the revolution band members. Should be force himself to get back together with them because some fans want them to? That is comical and shows a sense of entitlement. (for the record, none of us know the exact nature of the relationship between him and his ex bandmembers)

most great artists has one decade of brilliance followed by some inconsistent records with gems here and there. Yet some deluded revolution fans actually believe that a 55 year old Prince would magically recreate another Sign o the times with the revolution. Its comical.

Its a lose lose situation for Prince. If he gets back togethar with them and makes a record, and if the record turns out to be mediocre, fans will blame Prince. They will not blame the revolution.

That being said, i would love to see Prince make another record with the revolution. I am certain that it won't be anywhere near the quality of sign or purple rain, and perhaps then people can shut up about the reunion.
