Prince is a rare find, younger fans dont deserve and wouldnt know what to do with him and his music. And by younger fans, I mean younger than me and I'm 29.

This is like telling Mozart needs more fans. Yum no.

Funny enough, Mozart's work is easier to find/listen to/experience than Prince's.

Because he's dead for a few hundred years and so there are no problems with copyright issues.

Also, you're not hearing Mozart performing Mozart. Were there recording devices back then?

.

You're hearing the London Symphony Orchestra (or whomever) re-performing Mozart's sheet music.

he doesnt have to attract new fans because like he said in an interview that he already has his legacy.

I don't disagree. Yet, he doesn't take care of it as well as it could be.

*

At tonight's show, he said, something to the effect of I see we got a lot of young people in the audience. If you like this song, remember it's from 1986, it's called "U Got the Look".

*

What? Prince, it is one of your most famous songs! Perhaps if you didn't strangle youtube, etc. your 25 and under crowd would already know/love this song as much as we did when it came out.

*

Ultimately, it's his career and he's doing great. Aged more gracefully than I would have imagined still untouchable. However, it shouldn't be a big epic quest for potential new fans to explore/experience his legacy.

[Edited 5/25/13 21:04pm]

There's a 20 year old female at my job and she's a college student, (I work at a University) and she has never heard of Prince at all. I played her 1999. Nope. When Doves Cry. Nope. She'd never heard any of the hits I played for her. Not a one. Not even a faint glimmer of recognition. She knows about 8 Mile, (you know, Eminem's reboot of Purple Rain for the non-singing generation) but not Purpla Rain. I highly doubt that's indicative of people her age in this country, but it's still weird when you talk about a secured legacy. She knew EVERY Michael Jackson hit, though. It was a sad day for talk of a legacy...

i always find it slightly disturbing how 'young people' know every michael jackson song

yet seem to be completely oblivious of anything that happened at the same time as he

had those hit singles. it's like they have the most enormous blinders on.

given the shitty way prince's music sounds when performed by others

compared to how 'magical' he manages to make his songs sound. i've

just now realised how big the difference between mozart playing piano

himself and just a talented pianist working off his sheet music must be.

That will be fixed soon in the USSA.

It even happened with fairy tales in the public domain.
