Suddenly ALL my official Prince / Warner Bros CD's won't play, (distortion, and you can't rip the CD's to MP3's)..

ALL of my Warner Prince CD collection won't play, they are playing with a lot of distortion, a lot of awfull noice.

.

Suddenly, I can't rip the CD's to MP3, all Prince CD's won't play in iTunes or Windows Media Player.

.

the only way to play the albums are on my old fashioned CD player, my stereo from the 90's.

.

No chance on my PC.

.

Damn what is behind this, I am not that technical, and I don't know any solution.

.

I made a google search and it seems like others with new PC's are having problems too, with WARNER music CD's only.

.

mad sad

.

Is this a new Warner CD "copy protection"..?

.

Is there a way to solve this..?

.

I wonder a new CD drive in my PC, will this solve the problem..?

.

Oh dear how annoying........

.

Now I know why Prince hates the Warner Bros. company.... lol cry

"Warner Music CD's sound is distorted on Dell Windows 7 computer

.

I have a new Dell computer operating on Windows 7. Some cd's will not play or download on Windows Media Player or iTunes as the sound is totally distorted. These same cd's were fine on my old Dell with Windows XP. The cd's also play on Hi Fi's and other computers without any problems. Is this a problem with Windows 7? (all the cd's seem to be produced by Warner Music or their associated companies).
Any help would be appreciated."

.

^ My PC is a Medion, I found this - problems on Dell computers.

(I hope the link works?)

Very serious, unfortunately.

Found a kind of a solution:

Quote (again)...:

"

Thank you for these useful tips! I have a relatively new Dell machine with a DVD drive that doesn't play certain Warner CDs properly ("Erato" publishing for classical music), giving lots of background noise as described in this thread. The drive is a TSSTcorpDVD+-RW TS-H653G.

.

I experimented along similar lines to you, and found that in my case the best thing was to double click on tracks a long way apart repeatedly e.g. track 1, 17, 4, 16, 2, 16 etc. only allowing each one to start for only a split second. (I didn't need to close and reopen WMP.) After 10-20 of these double clicks, the drive played the CD perfectly; perhaps this disk-thrashing allowed it to calibrate itself to the correct layer somehow, avoiding all the noise put in by the copy control protection. I was then able to get an AccurateRip certified rip with EAC software. I just play the mp3s now, so don't mind if it's tricky to play the acual CD again.

.

Note: if the CD is stopped and left in the drive for a while, or ejected and put back in, the drive "forgets" how to play it properly and you have to go through the procedure above again.

Hope this helps others,

Bluto"

Question,

.

will an exchange to another cd drive solve the problem "permanently",

.

or, is this related to windows 8, because I did not have this problem on my old PC with Vista.. question

Looked at a few support threads.

Some swear it's copy protection. Some say it's the drive. Some say it's because the CD's don't meet Red Book specifications.

Etc.

Doesn't seem to be a Windows problem. Talk to your computer manufacturer.

Try playing or ripping a second time. See if it works then.

"I stopped the automatic rip and then just played all the songs at randon order, only for a few seconds, kept closing WMP and opening again from different icons..eg, my computer etc, and after about 5 mins, the CD plays fine, then I simply start the rip."

.

.

^ I tried this with Prince: "Ultimate".

.

Cd2 took about 30 seconds, and I could rip it without any problems. After, playing snippets of songs in random order with WMP - opening and closing WMP a few times...

.

However, Cd1.. this caused a lot of troubles, the Cd1 took about 10-15 minutes, but at the end I could also rip this cd.

.

A friend of mine said yesterday, this problem has something to do with the cd drive, on my new PC.

I've had this issue with the Ultimate and Hits CDs, all 5 of them, since I got my laptop over 3 years ago.

Posted about it in here, and again no one knew what was wrong:

http://prince.org/msg/7/333979

I'm convinced it's some sort of protection - it also happened with Green Day and a couple of other "Hits" CDs I tried to put on my laptop.

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

Try Linux.

`cdparanoia` rocks. See http://www.xiph.org/paranoia/.

Why use Windoze,OSX, etc when you can have less DRM?

The only discs I could never get to rip (and still can't) are Prince and ATWIAD. I bought a new laptop just last year, I tried the internal and an external cd drive and they still will not rip. EAC will begin to rip the first track but then it sticks after a few seconds in. I tried all kinds of combinations, but still no luck. Everything else (including other WB artists and cd's) worked fine and ripped with no problems.

You did not see a recent distro, it appears.

And if you are not computer savvy, what are you doing with the computer?

You create a selfsustaining problem.

People can't solve their problems, can't understand, can't decide what would be better, etc.

Are your kernel bugs solved within days?

Ubuntu is incredibly easy to use, and it can be used together with Windows. It would be good to verify if it's an OS problem or not...

It's the DVD read/write drive, not the operating system.
