SOTT - (Companion Piece)

My sister has been Begging for me to make her a CD in the flow of Sign O The Times.. One of the ONLY CDs she Loves from begining to end.. and she grew up with me.. so naturally she's familiar with the protege artists as well.. so I compiled this CD for her.. Thoughts or suggestions.. maybe I can take some of your input before giving it to her. Do note I REALLY wanted to throw on some Madhouse.. but . she's very shy musicially on instrumentals.. I would like her to digest Madhouse on it's own.....

Here's what a came up with.. there's always room for a part 2 so... feel free to add your own tracklists... I REALLY wanted to add Crystal Ball, but she does have the Crystal Ball set and felt otherwise it would take up too much time on a CD... (otherwise "Good Love" would be on here too)

1. La, La, La, He He Hee (single edit)

2. Deborah Allen - Telepathy

3. Taja Sevelle - Wouldn't You Love To Love Me

4. Sheena Easton - 101 (album version)

5. Housequake (Razormaid Remix)

6. Shockadelica (Extended Version)

7. Jill Jones - For Love

8. Baby Go Go (Prince Demo)

9. U Got The Look (Long Look)

10. Sheila E - Koo Koo (Remix)

11. Starfish & Coffee ('95 Version)

12. Rebirth Of The Flesh

13. Sheena Easton - Cool Love

14. The Sex Of It (Prince Demo)

15. Sheena Easton - Eternity

16. Sheila E - Love On A Blue Train (LP version)

I've listened to it and makes a Pretty Sweet album....

There isn't much point of having La La La He He Hee on anything if it's not the 12" version, IMO opinion.

Most of those associated artist songs are pretty weak.

I revisited them a month or so back after years away, my goodness i was pretty bored, just itching to skip. What i found interesting back then @ 17 just cause of P's involvement holds minimal interest to me now. Sheena Easton & Taja Sevelle?! No sir.

If i was doing something like that for a stranger showing an interest, it'd be a Camille/Black album crossover. She's your sister, you said she was familiar with associated stuff, so you'll be ok. It's not like she won't forgive you.

Reading this forced me to pull out my 'Telepathy' 12", and I realized that I have two of them for some reason. LOVE that song.

I did the same thing about a month or two ago. For some reason, I got really inspired to finally upgrade all of the associated artists stuff in my iTunes to a higher bitrate, then add them to my massive Prince shuffle playlist. I finally got it done, and I then I realized just how terrible so many of his side projects were. Cured me of ever thinking I needed to revisit a whole lot of this stuff.

I would propose this :

1. La, La, La, He He Hee (EXTENDED)

2. Superfunkycalifragisexy

3. Taja Sevelle - Wouldn't You Love To Love Me

4. Sheena Easton - 101 (album version)

5. Housequake (7 minutes mo' quake version)

6. Shockadelica (Extended Version)

7. Jill Jones - For Love

+ Bob George

8. Baby Go Go (Prince Demo)

+ Shockadelica

9. 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton

10. Sheila E - Koo Koo (Remix)

11. Starfish & Coffee ('95 Version)

+ Madhouse - ... (the one with the lyric "Baby Doll House'' in it)

12. Rebirth Of The Flesh

13. Jill Jones - Mia Bocca (extended version)

14. The Sex Of It (Prince Demo)

15. Wendy & Lisa - Lolly Lolly (Prince mix)

16. Sheila E - Love On A Blue Train (LP version)

I'm gonna make this for my own. wink Thanks ! Hope it turns out well for her. Let us know how she liked it.

I'd add Sideshow and/or Honeymoon Express from Wendy & Lisa's debut album.

I realize those have no direct Prince input, but their sound in those days was a direct influence on Prince and vice-versa.

Plus, this album was their first after going solo, which leads me to believe that a good majority of those songs were at least conceptualized during their time with Prince.

Great Ideas..... I listened to the original CDr in the car this week.. JAMS! so.. I dunno.. maybe just go with a CD of the Maxi singles and Bsides.. and let her move on to a new project.. she's also never seen the SOTT film.. I told her we have to watch that one night.

I really am passionate about my own experience.. enjoying the album in the late 80's.. start to finish.. then collecting the singles/maxi singles, seeing the movie and enjoying the side projects.

Later got to experience the outtakes and alt versions that come forth.. the Prince experience is So different people to people. but I really really enjoy experiencing it the way I did...

Going to the record store.. seeing the visuals that went along with the LP and the 12 inch singles.. that odd old familiar smell of vinyl... OH I miss those days!
