Just caught up on all of your podcasts from the last year.

Kudos on bringing the bitrate down to something more reasonable. Still, 192 kbps is a bit of overkill for a talk-based podcast.

Love the show as usual guys. I'm listening to it right now and I'm at the "Morning Papers" and I just have to say that Prince doesn't wear blue jeans in that video at all. Unless theres an Aussie only video that he wears blue jeans. Just kinda found that funny. Keep on the good work guys.

Any chance of the Captain revisiting his old original cover versions of some of these album tracks. Your version of "The Morning Papers" sounds great and then the other one you mentioned that I was laughing my ass off ("I Wanna Shit On U" ?). Maybe you could even tie in the "Foot up the Ass of Jim Crow" theme in there. This album review has to be one of the most entertaining reviews you guys have ever done. And after 21 years listening to that album and listening to close to a 3 hour podcast, the consensous is that we still don't know what the hell he's talking about on 50 % of that album. I kinda wish you guys would of discussed the album cover. It's one of his coolest yet kookiest covers. It reminds me of Prince & Mayte superimposed on a proto type Star Wars Cloud City Playset. What the hell was going on there ? Also the "Ryde Dyvine" tv special is worth mentioning( as a companion to 3 Chains of Gold) simply for the horrendous editing and the embarrising production values. Prince actually defies the laws of physics by being at the side of the stage playing peek-a-boo and an edit later driving the Bemmer Chiquita Yellow down the highway on his way to Paisley Park. Hot mess, That special was a hot mess.

The Ryde Dyvine... You are correct, it was a "hot mess". Not only the editing, the audio quality was pretty horrible, too...

They must have learned some lessons, though. The Beautiful Experience was a big step up in production value!

I don't disagree that this should be a sticky... I think it should. thumbs up!

I do wonder, however, why there's never a sticky for the Prince Podcast. I like them both equally, but it seems that P&B is favored at the org, while PP is ignored. This seems strange to me...

I agree with that as well. I think what might of turned people off to that is that I believe there was a point where he was trying to charge for the podcast episodes. Also I think the fact that Prince reached out to them a couple years ago gave them a little more cred in fans eyes.I think Micheal Dean is also unique and good(along with his crew) and his show has a completly different flavor than P & B. I champion and support anyone that takes the time and deication to do a podcast on the subject.Thank You Thundefunk!!! biggrin for hipping me a week or 2 to The music snobs podcast. I find really interesting hearing peoples opinions on the subject. Nobody's really right or wrong, Its just a matter of perspective. And I totally admire the passion and comittment to Prince Fandom within those shows. Peace and much props to all of the Prince podcasts. Also, if any of those shows want a slammin guest to drop some unknown mental jewels and just rap onthe subject.Hit Big Chick up.

You're welcome on the Music Snobs podcast. Of course, I heard about it first on the Prince Podcast. If it wasn't for Michael Dean mentioning them (even before they were guests) I would have never found them.

I agree with the props to all of the Prince podcasts. There can never be too many! wink

Because the P&B podcast is about Prince and the Prince podcast is about Michael Dean lol

Though I honestly don't know why any podcast would get a sticky. It isn't news and the threads don't generally get that long.

They are, technically an advertisement for the podcast itself. A welcome one, but still an ad.

Good point.

I just think that anyone that would want to come to the org to read what other fans think about Prince, they would also want to listen to podcasts and hear what other fans think about Prince.

Maybe it's just me...

Cool show guys. This album is wayyyyyyy down my list of favourite prince albums, probably my least favourite of his warner albums. In a weird way it's good t to listen to people talking about why they like songs i cannot stand.

I thought it was interesting what MC said about the Continental, it's one of the few songs off that album I actually really like but I couldn't really disagree with him; it is just a mess of ideas that doesn't exactly work.... I'd probably say the same thing about 3 Chains of Gold: total mess, laughably stupid bad ideas and doesn't work AT ALL but sure you guys all think it's great!

The joys of being a prince fan.

I'd say they've proved through a lot of good quality episodes that they're something worth advertising?

I think the lads have made themselves a part of "prince lore" much like controversy magazine, Per Nielson and the org itself. So whilst I see your your point I think new poddies should be stickified. I'd even dare to say that the true OCD suffering completists might wamt to add all the podcasts to thier collections along with all the biographies etc.

Yes, the sound quality is really bad. I own a warner Bros. x-reference cassette fromthat and the quality sounds like it was from the TV broadcast. I never understood why that was put a warners in house x-reference cassette.

I didn't say they weren't, but there's actual news about Prince or his music that doesn't even rate a sticky, so why a podcast that mostly deals in reviews of older work?

Thanks for this! So enjoyable to hear people talking about one of my top albums. I don't know anyone who likes Prince, let alone even know about the Symbol album, so this is so fun.

As some others have expressed on this thread and on others over the years about this album, YES, IT IS A HOT MESS - but he does it with such conviction, and so badass, it makes you want to weep and laugh at the same time. I love, Love, LOVE this album.
But even those who do not like this album must find a few gems on this -
7, And God Created Woman, and Sexy MF are standouts and undeniably good songs, whether you're a fan or not of this album.

Thanks for celebrating it!

Yesterday i just found this before I went on a trainride.

Much appreciated.

Could you consider the goldnigga cd?
I always found this the brother of the Floiink cd.
Prince sounded so loose on GN as opposed to the symbol One.

The GN cd also was more suited to TonyM

Someone, Captain I think, mentioned that the Limited Edition version of the CD, that came in the gold box, was the censored version of the album. I have the LE gold box and mine is NOT censored. Maybe yours is a promo or something?

It wasn't bad, but I will admit one of my least satisfying of their episodes, they mythered on far too long over what I consider to be a MAJORLY overrated album, most of it is self indulgent crap and Tony M is the worst rapper in history, he makes Vanilla Ice look like a lyrical genius.

Captain as usual cracked me up with his review of my name of Prince, as it really is just such a bitsy song. It was alright, but just wish the boys would stop reviewing these second tier 90s albums and review a real album like Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Black, Lovesexy or even Graffiti Bridge, or maybe the Jill Jones or the 3 Sheila E albums.

Symbol has some good songs, but its nothing earth shattering theres too much filler and silly segues to make it anywhere near a classic. Captain gave it a 9.3, with me you could reverse those digits on a bad day.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
