* Ain't Gon' Miss U"... HOT - Part 2

K, folks. Creating a new thread for discussing the track.

Please be civil. No asking for/hinting/etc. Abide by the rules please if you want the org around for a long time. Oh and if I receive any forwarded orgnotes with your message of "asking for, etc.", yep, you too will be dealt with.

NO posting of any links. No giving hints of where to find.

If anyone wants to discuss the rules, feel free to create a thread over in Site Discussion.

Let's keep the topic on track. Thank you.

So... Where can I...

buy em? lol Hope 3Eyes has em up soon. I got straight into Aint Gon Miss U and I'm still enjoying it. Not the best thing in the world but it sounds funky to me. music

I wont forward any notes I'll delete em, it's not a problem. Perfectly understandable, people want the tracks and why shouldn't they. The lack of common decency pissed me off more than the notes.

Damn, stay away from this site for a few hours and see what happens... Google doesn't help... From what I've read "Down" seems to be pretty good... pout

I liked them all but "Down" was my favourite. It sounds like vintage 80s pop melodrama.

Not too bad, they got something about them. About time that funny lil man redeemed himself.

One suggestion in case this gets released ...

P, please get cut the first 2 lines of Down. It's nowhere near "the saddest story ever been told." Other than that, it's a great song!

I would love a really clean release of the live version of Ain't Gon Miss U, but I actually think a studio/Prince produced version of this song would probably have those terrible Casio type synths and cheesey vegas horn fills.

That being said, I REALLY like this song! The slow tempo drum beat and back up singers really make this track sound good. Hope it makes it into his regular sets.

Ain't gon miss u is definetely not a live recording.

The circulating track is a just a public audiece recording of a studio track...

I disagree the synths are good (post-retro/minimalist) and it's always good to hear live horns on a drum machine track. plus IT IS the studio version (just played to a live audience by DJ Rashida and P commenting on his own songs!)

I must really be out of touch with Prince's music. I did not like these at all. sad It seems others here really like it. I wish I could share the same excitement. Unfortunately these threee did nothing for me. I did like it a little better than the 3rd eye girl stuff but thats not saying much. I am really starting to question if I should even continue to follow Prince. Its a sad time for me personnaly when it comes to Prince now i guess. sad

They took a while for me to appreciate them, but I think he's onto something here with at least 2 of those tracks. I thought that especially "Down" was a bit corny at first, but it could be up there with "Empty Room" (it's not hard to imagine a guitar solo towards the end of the full version). "2 Young 2 Dare" is not the new "D.M.S.R" or anything like that, but I like the arrangements and how the "2 Young 2 Dare" part is sung (is that Andy singing with him?). "Ain't Gon Miss U" doesn't really cut it for me, although hearing the final version might change that impression.

Hard to say what the "non-PA" versions will sound like as sometimes Prince's choice of sounds (synths and drums especially) can make or break a track. I can't really discern much detail from these recordings.

I thought he was performing it live with the backup singers/chrous part being a sample (ie like on TGE tour)

Anyone out there have confirmation of this either way? If this is a pure studio track it couldn't make me more happy

No, from my understanding the recording of this was already done when the DJ played it at the Dakota concert... So, you are hearing a recording of a recording...

Exactly. These three tracks are just a few of the new songs DJ Rashida played at the Dakota.

Liar.

"Down" is awful, forgettable, and the lyrics are embarrassing.

"Ain't Gon' Miss U" has a hideous vocal sample, and the chorus is bad, Clarence Carter bad.

"2 Young 2 Dare" is okay, but belongs tossed on the 3rdeyegirl site, not an album.

Prince: "What do you think?"

I think stop interrupting the song when I have it on continuous repeat and give me the full version. I Love it.

Ain't Gon Miss U. It's okay, very Black Sweat, etc. Is it from that period as it's so similar?

2 Young 2 Dare. I like the flute (?). Not a bad little funky number really. Possible radio release (UK) if mixed properly?

Down. Shades of his earlier brilliance to me. Nothing like he's released in a number of years (decades!?). It'd be a crying shame if this one doesn't get a release of some sort. Please Prince? This is the kind of thing that kept me interested all those years ago.

One thing to consider about "Down" is that the PA recording sort of gives it a "Purple Rain" era vibe as the sound is so reverberated and dirty. The actual version might be a whole lot drier and cleaner (think of "U're Gonna C Me" from MPLSound). That's not necessarily so bad either, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the actual release.
