I thought he had to do that shit, it was written for someone who couldn't sing. To make a thief, make an owner; to create crime, create laws.

KoolEaze said: It took me years to appreciate this album and to get into it. I hated it when it first came out, hated the whole era, the look, Prince´s hair, the Game Boyz, the cover versions during the Nude tour, the omnipresent Batman logo, hated how the whole project started, everything.
And I think, from what I recall, Tim Burton didn´t even really WANT Prince to make this soundtrack, he merely wanted to use a few Prince songs and that was it, and I saw an interview where he expresses his frustrations with the whole thing but I guess in retrospect the album is considered part of the whole "Burton´s Batman" hype so you can´t have one without the other.
By the way, I couldn´t stand that movie either. But I love Chris Nolan´s version of Batman.
In hindsight, it is a pretty decent commercial album with a lot of pop appeal ( at least back then), and I still like the Mark Moore remix of The Future. Partyman is a quality song, and I like The Scandalous Sex Suite (and Scandalous, the song). I Love U In Me and Arms of Orion are not really my favorite ballads, but I prefer the former to the latter and I prefer both over dull and derivative stuff like Satisfied or On the Couch.
Really not my favorite era. This and GB made me grow cold toward Prince until a friend of mine hooked me up with a mix tape to get me back into Prince again. People love to hate Diamonds and Pearls but it helped me to like Prince again, despite the often criticized sellout aspect of it. It´s just a very positive, uplifting, cheerful and warm Prince album, whereas Batman is not.
Isn't it because if the Prince/Batman experience that Burton now has an added clause in his movies where he is solely in charge of the soundtrack, which is why the majority are done by Danny Elfman. I quite like the Batman album, thought the songs had the same eccentric tone as the movie, and at that time it was nice to hear songs that were that bit different to what was being released in the mainstream. I really love the video for Batdance!!! But I think the album really should have been called Ode to Anna, her being the main inspiration for a lot of the songs. 1.Wtf? Were you even alive in 1989? The album fulfills every requirement for a soundtrack that existed.
2. Why don't you take your bias out of the equation before asking my opinion? "New Power slide...."

The maxi singles save this project. I rarely listen to the album, i'd rather listen to the remixes and b-sides from this era. I remember getting this album on cassette and vinyl on the release day and being disappointed on first couple of listens. Kind of stuck with me.

I agree with most of what you said. I thought it was a good album when I got it in 89, but over time, I find the album seems to fall short. I think the songs are good (overall), but as an album/soundtrack, it just doesn't hold up.
I totally agree that the maxi singles save the project. Especially the "Partyman" remixes, "Scandalous Sex Suite"....those are 2 of my favs from that era. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
