Weird Al says Prince has no sense of humor It's the question Weird Al Yankovic fans have been asking for years -- Why won't Prince let him spoof any of his songs?? Well, now Weird Al is finally shedding some light on the topic ... saying the guy has no sense of humor. Al was at LAX, where he explained that he ALWAYS asks for permission from the original artists before he spoofs a song ... but Prince has never given him the green light. Yankovic said he isn't bothered by the rejection though -- saying, "There's plenty of enough people that HAVE a sense of humor." Boom.

Prince strikes me as one of those people who does not like to be the butt of a joke for any reason.
I remember when Howard Stern's crew infiltrated his 'I'm Prince Again' conference, and asked him "Who would win in a fight? You or Micheal Jackson?"
Prince laughed and responded "Micheal's a lover--not a fighter."
But, after that, he was vissibly nervous--he had a politician's smile, much like the politician smiles you see when they are confronted by Michael Moore and realize the cameras are running.
I mean, anyone would be in a situation like that, nervous. But, I don't tihnk Prince is the kind of person who likes to be laughed at.

Prince has a sense of hmor, but only if he's the one delivering the joke.

I was listening to a bootleg years back and in it Prince made mention of Weird Al's "Fat" (MJ's Bad) video. He was asking his band if they had seen it. I think he even laughed and enjoyed it. I think the boot was from the LoveSexy era. klick klick

of course prince has a sense of humour
he sells jokes as music all the time and laughs every time some orger pays him another 88 cents
ps. wierd al is probably a better musician than prince .. his essentials cd is meticulously genius
prince is jealous | |

This. Or with someone he's comforable with, like Leno...

Is Prince the only artist who has refused Weird Al? Maybe one of the few anyway, and I'm sure that burns his inflated sense of self-importance. His shtick ran out of gas somewhere around 1989 if not several years before that. Never cared for his work. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Weird Al Yankowich is the biggest PARASITE in the musicworld..
He has made a career, copying other original artists' work..
and he ain't even funny..
I am so glad Prince said no to him,
can you see him covering an original song like When Doves Cry or Kiss,
destroying those great songs with his not-so-funny weirdness..
HELL no.... Prince has great humour - he has shown it many times (UTCM?), but his songs ain't made to be a cheap laugh...
Weird Al's Michael Jackson parody: "I'm fat I'm fat".. that was embarrassing.. and I don't like the "Beat It" parody either..
Someone gotta tell the truth, this is how I see it.... Prince 4Ever.

It's funny how people says the same thing about Prince...

I like weird Al, he's funny and also respectful. He seeks the artists permission before doing a parody and respects their answers, which is why he's never done a Prince one.
Kurt Cobain was worried that he would do a silly song about food but when Al explained that it would be about how people couldn't misunderstood Nirvan lyrics, Kurt gave it the green light. Apparently the band loved the finished product. Cobain & Yankovic
He recently did a Gaga parody of Born This Way. He tried for ages to get her to say yes but keep getting told no. The story of that is cool too. Normally he gets permission before writing the song but Gaga said no, she wated to hear it before approving. So he sent lyrics, again no, needed to hear it. Al said surely she could imagine how it sounds as it's her song. Nope, needed to hear it. So he recorded it and sent it off. No again! Even though he has the right to release and sell the song, he won't do it. But what he does do is release it for free on youtube. A while later he gets a call from Gaga and she loves it. Turns out she'd never heard it as her manager was just flatly saying no on her behalf! Gaga link
He wanted to do a parody of Live And Let Die called Chicken Pot Pie but McCartney refused due to his vegetarian beliefs. McCartney did say he could do any other theme but not meat based ones . McCartney Yankovic
Anyway, I get why people may not like his humour but he always goes about it from a point of respect. Oh and he does write original songs too .

Eminem also never allowed Al to parody one of his songs. Which is pretty ironic cuz when you really think about it that's what Eminem made most of his career out of;clowning, parodying and making fun of other celebs like...Moby and Britney. He's pretty hardcore isn't he Anyways to me, both Prince and Eminem seem to think they can make fun of themselves but others can't. According to psychology this is commonly found from people who used to be bullied as a kid. Most of the time these people just can't stand the idea of being made fun of, rather than finding the material itself offensive. Just sayin' LOL

Self-depricating isn't really his style of humour.

wierd al won a grammy for his last record .. hear that prince?

Who gives a shit. He's a comedian of music, not a musician for music's sake. Not in the same category of existence. He has a right to his opinion about Prince, but Prince equally has a right to his opinion about music parodying. Get over it. Change it one more time..

I'm confused. What exactly are you wanting TrevorAyer to get over?
I don't think he comes off as being particular fixated on anything in his post.

He said "Prince is jealous". Jealous of what is my question. Sounds butt-hurt to me because Prince doesn't wanna come out, share his toys and play with little weird Al. Who cares if Prince is insecure about making fun of him or his music. Its his prerogative what he does with his life. Hence the "get over it".. Change it one more time..

When I was a kid I loved Weird Al's parodies, so I have nothing against him. But him opining on Prince's sense of humor generates a big shrug of indifference from me. Its not like he was the first or only person Prince has said "no" to. If he were a hot latina or mixed-race woman with a nice body I'm sure Prince would have accepted without reservation. Change it one more time..

He would definitely have a field day "interviewing" Prince with all the kooky interviews Prince has done about chemtrails, Jehovah, multiple personalities, record companies, and assorted theories on media and pop culture. But Weird Al still reminds me of some Dungeons & Dragons playing nerd-o-Rama. And where did he get that hairstyle? Is that Top Ramen on his head? wierd al was a fucking genius AND he is still a genius .. unlike prince
i grew up enjoying his parodies .. pretty funny .. spot on .. cute for a nerdy elementary kid like me
thought he was stupid in highs school and college
forgot about him for a couple of decades (wish i would have done the same with prince)
now i have a son and i got him the essentials cd
not only are the parodies rediculously GREAT .. but he writes originals too .. they are practically prog rock level classics .. tightness .. harmonies that would make prince panties wet .. and fucking funny every step of the way .. and the new parodies are great too ..
my son loves every song on this 30 song double disk of HITS .. yup just like prince .. the guy can play a polka medley combining everything from metallica to gaga .. spot on note for note on and accordian .. take that prince and your boring ass medleys ...
there is nothing like prince in his prime NOTHING .. but prince cant lick wierd als shoes these days ..
this breakfast can wait girl thang crap bores me to no end .. wierd al still has IT .. and his band is meticulous .. his stage show .. which i saw last year .. was fantastic too .. and he is just plain a great musician .. respectable talent .. fucking funny and a good person .. unlike you know who ..
yes prince take note .. raise the bar .. stop farting on cd .. wierd al did it first and much better
