Which songs should STAY in the vault?

Okay...we give Prince a lot of requests for vault material. What do you think should stay in there? C'mon...you know you have a few.

Personally, I think all those Gangster Glam remixes should be placed in a dark corner of the vault and left there for all time.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Work The P should've suffered the same fate as the original Wally.

Big Tall Wall

Fuchsia Light

those Kirky J remixes from 94 or so.

most of that boring acoustic demo-ey stuff from the mid-late '70s. there probably aren't THAT many of them that are circulating, but they all sound the same and seem to go on forever. even the short ones.

whatever may or may not have come out of any possible Kim Bassinger sessions. some of the Carmen Electra ones are better than what's on her album, but he can keep them too.

similiarly, I don't need Cat to rap.

"American in Paris" I think is really weak. "Hey Louie Louie", "1999 The New Master".

I think the extended verson of 17 Days should stay in there - purely because it's so much fun watching RD beg for it.

Emancipation89

The fact that everyone's naming different songs for this question clearly shows that his fans really need to hear all the songs. I'm not saying (and no one is) every song in his vault will be great but that was never the point of wanting to listen to all his music anyway. Curious to see what he was experimenting at certain period of time and what he's not necessarily great at too. So I always thought as great as it sounds for the fans, opening the entire vault can make Prince pretty vulnerable..

I understand why you would feel this way...but this song makes me laugh.

Honestly (and I am not saying that it's a worse song than "Work the P") I've never understood the love for "Moonbeam Levels." It's not bad, but it doesn't make me grin ear to ear like, say, "God Is Alive."

I've never been that enamoured with Schoolyard from the D&P sessions but I know lots like it. I think the trouble is with some songs like this is they still can sound like raw demos.

If Prince has a full produced finished song then I probably would still like to hear that version ...and all demos too oh heck I can't do this! lol

I actually like the Carmen cd even though I thought her live act during the D&P tour was crap. One of the very few cases where I prefer the album to the concert.

Most of them.

UNLESS, he completes them.

Most of the stuff in the vault is not as good as what he released. However, and this is a big "however", what I think is good enough to be released might not be what others think is good enough. And what I think ought to stay in the vault might not be what others what to stay in the vault.

So the only answer that makes everyone happy is to release/make available for purchase pretty much everything.

I think anything he performed live should remain out of the vault (esp if its pre 1990)

There's Others Here With Us is one of the most experimental pieces of music he has made. Calling it "cheeseville" misses the point pretty damn badly.

Oh hell to the nizzaw!!!!

We could put the rainbow children back in the vault, that whole album should be buried in quicklime.

But yeah don't get Our Destiny and most of his early 90s jams like Schoolyeard and Work that fat need to go to go the fuck back.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

WHATTTT??? Our Destiny? I love the live version 6.7.1984 and the Lisa Coleman version (she talked about some of the work on it on her face book) Our Destiny is a 1984 song
