Weird Al is far from my style of humor and his music is not my cup o' tea, but as a musician of no small skill I can tell you he can play and he has an amazing ear. He's an astounding improviser, but most people don't notice because he does it on the accordion. I can assure all of you that he's more talented as a musician that 90% of the assclowns who get respect on here because simple-minded people often confuse looks and dancing ability with musicianship. They are not related in the least. I'd rather listen to Prince any day of the week, but Weird Al is not a joke even though his music is designed to be.

That's pretty impressive talent to furiously type 60 words a minute while giving Weird Al the best deepthroat he ever got in his life.

Weird Al is a genius! His lyrics are very funny and very creative. And he does parodies, but a majority of his songs are originals, and they are usually much better than his knock offs. I can't hate on Weird Al. And his concerts are great times to be had by all.

I just think Prince takes his music seriously. He won't even let us watch a video of his on Youtube, he surely isn't going to let anyone parody a song. He wouldn't give anyone permission to do anything with his music, likeness, etc. So saying Prince has no sense of humor isn't correct either. Prince just ain't sharing, that's all.

What part of a COMEDIAN of music did you fail to understand. I didn't say we wasn't a musician, non-reading-one. The point is, since it obviously went over your head, no one will EVER know Weird Al for being anything other than "the guy who does parodies of other peoples work". Point blank. Whether he's a good or bad musician is irrelevant. He could be an absolutely crappy musician. No one would know the difference because its irrelevant to the parodying. There are millions of great musicians on this planet. No one would have any clue who the weird looking fuck is if he didn't parody other artists. He would just be another guy with a small audience that the mass public would be oblivious to.

You lose, I win. He is a musician for music's sake. Lyrics are a different matter. That's like saying Prince is the New Age/drama queen/sexy man of music, THEREFORE he's not a musician for music's sake. Frank Zappa was considered a comedian, too, but even Prince's too-cool-for-school-ass said Zappa was ahead of his time. Zappa was more though-provoking black humor whereas Weird Al is just silly, but that doesn't mean he doesn't put a lot of effort into the musical side of things. His parody songs are just one part of what he does and I can promise you Prince's band couldn't play half of Weird Al's originals without loads of practice whereas Weird Al's band could play many of Prince's songs without a lot of work.

On an unrelated note, Scarface was not supposed to be an inspiring movie. It represents a total failure of a human being who ended up dead. I don't get the romance.

I find him moderately funny. His songs aren't funny to me at all, but his fake interviews often have me in stitches in places.

A few things:

1. He always gets permission from the artists he parodies (except a mixup with Coolio's management)

2. He's had the same band for 30 years, and they are top notch musicians--obviously he must be a great guy to work with.

3. I just think he's a great guy.

regarding his change in emotion, i thought he was just a. worried that he had come across as mocking mj and/or b. contemplating how the guy who asked the question had commented that the two were physically about the same size and thus equally matched

i can relate to not wanting to be laughed at. i joke about myself all the time, cuz that's my job, not some1 elses i feel like what really hurts about being mocked is not that i value the mocker's opinion of me, but that i'm somehow helping them dig themself into a hole.

i think it's cool how seriously prince takes his art. seems like he feels a deep resposibility to protect the intention of what he brings into this dimension -- to keep them from being subtly misused. i don't think its anything personal against weird al, but it just simplifies life, frees up time to decline most of these type of requests. al is very talented and intelligent, but maybe his ways just aren't quite in harmony with prince's Vision.

prince's sense of humor is huge and refined, but he's wise to keep it respectful, out of the realms of mockery.

I can see why people don't find him funny but he's not a bully. As has been noted several times, he seeks permission for a parody and won't do it if refused, even though he legally could.

Not sure how you define success, but a career of 30+ years, over 12million albums sold, 3 grammies won, 6 platinum and 4 gold albums in the USA. If that's a lack of success then sign me up!
