When I started Studying Arts and Portraiture, this was the first portrait that I made ... So just by this you can tell that Prince is a huge Influence In my life, so of course I want him to be happy!

I like to draw myself, but I'm not even close to the techniques you display here. The shadow is very well done and so are the hands, which are very hard to draw right because of the proportions.

I could tell you seemed a very gifted girl. Keep up the good work!

YES, I care about Prince as a person. The way an artist conducts himself on stage, in interviews, in any public appearance makes me either like them or dislike them. - It may not always be the correct perception, of course, because we don't know what the person is like in private, but still - you get an idea. Based on that, I did not care much for Prince as a person in the 80s and early 90s, but in the last few years I have seen a different person - much more friendly and open, very likeable, and so I can now say that I do care about him.

After reading three pages of responses, I thought I should go back and look at the original post again and make sure that my answer was accurate. So many people were discussing whether we could know Prince or questioning whether he cared about you or me or that other dude over there beyond what we might mean to him financially, and all sorts of other issues.

Do I care about Prince as a person? That's the question.

Yes. I don't know him well, but I do care something about the person I think I sense behind the art and the promotion. I don't like everything I think I know about him--I probably would not want to hang out with him, and have almost nothing in common with him beyond things I share with most humans, but I have at least a sense of him as an individual person. Not one I'd like, but not liking someone doesn't mean you can't care about that person.

Do I care a whole lot about Prince as a person? Not in comparison to people I care a lot about. But as much as or more than I care about most people I just have regular interactions with, occasional conversations but no real relationship. There's only a handful of people I do care a whole lot about. Prince isn't one of them. But that wasn't the question.

Do I care about everyone on the planet "as a person"--actually, no. I care about people I know about (even if only a little) more than people I don't know. Someone I only slightly know from years ago almost certainly means more to me than somebody I've never heard of at all, and, though it sounds terrible, than several thousand people I've never heard of (or quite possibly, all the people I've never heard of). I think I'm not alone or even unusual in really caring about a beloved pet more than I care about generic "people." It's hard to seriously care anything/feel anything about anonymous people. That's why when you're making a charitable appeal, you don't just give numbers and stats; you show a face, you give a name. It's also why the people who actually do seem to care (and act extensively on that caring) are considered so remarkable.

Does Prince care about me? Of course not. I am an anonymous human being, one of 6 billion+ others who have no real existence in his mind. He's never heard my name (although it's been in a couple of databases maintained by his businesses), never seen my face, or heard my voice. He cannot care about me as a person, even if his religion requires him to say/believe he does. Nor does he probably care about me as a consumer. While I've spent what seems to me a pretty significant amount of money on products he's created and indirectly or directly sold to me, the money I've contributed to his coffers probably wouldn't even be noticeable up against his average daily expenditures. For all practical purposes, I as an individual do not exist for him.

However, his impact on me is noticeable. Even though it's only through his art, he has affected me significantly, and that gives me a certain feeling for him, a certain level of caring. I'd prefer to think of him as happy than not, and am actually able to put some sort of meaning to that idea in my head, based on my limited sense of him. I can't to do that with over 6 billion other people in the world. So I care about him.

If it came to him or the handful of people I care a lot about on a tiny raft in the middle of the Pacific, even if he offered me the keys to the vault, I'm shoving him into the shark-infested waters. But that doesn't mean I don't care about him, just that I care about those few people I care a lot about a whole lot more. But I don't think that was the question.
