NO new album??

Doc Funk had earlier posted rumours that an album listening party was happening today. That was followed up with this. If true, i'm gutted. What d'yall think??Nothing I've heard so far has been all that excited for a new album anyway.

This was already mentioned in the website thread. It is possible Prince is just saying this to get attention, like the 3rdeyegirl bootleg thing. Personally, I'm not an album person so I don't care.. I'd rather have individual songs.

I think the fans would agree on a collection of 10 to 12 tracks bundled together under a name and sold for $9.99 to $11.99. Also, make it widely available, so on iTunes, Amazon music, and even print up some CDs with cover art/liner notes/lyrics and sell them in the stores.
put a disclaimer at the end of the liner notes that says "Note: This is not an album, it is a collection of my new jams - Prince". |

That's another excerpt of Prince's Bilboard interview where he states there will be no new album, just new songs the fans will be able to purchase. Paisley Parl will be open this year for gigs as well. Well, well, well... | |

Who needs an album? If we get new tunes every week or so, that's a zillion times better. Burn them all to a disc if you need an "album".

"There was a private listening party for PRINCE's new album going on in Los Angeles last night... We were trying to keep it Hush Hush but it's just too hard. DJ Adam 12 & others were there??? There will be more iN4 when available. Keep U posted.... Enjoy the site 4 Now!!!"

I wouldn't be that surprise if this were true. Prince likes exploring new ways of doing things and in the past he was frustrated by Warner Bros for not letting him release the odd single etc (he felt restrained by the album/tour treadmill.
I can see Prince releasing songs whenever they are ready and either leaving it up to fans to create their own playlists and/or once enough songs are out providing his playlist for us to copy to create the album that would have released in the old model. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything. | |

I need an album! I'm an absolute technodunce and wouldn't have the first clue how to 'burn' a song.... don't have the right type of phone for buying off itunes or anything like that either. I need a straightforward album I can buy off Amazon and listen to in a CD playa

Didn't he say he wasn't gonna do albums anymore two years ago in that Guardian interview? I must say I'm surprised...didn't' know he was gonna stick to that idea Again I think IF THAT'S TRUE the reason he's doing this is because 1. he's still disappointed&frustrated his albums aren't selling anymore. 2. maybe he wants to preserve his legacy by doing this because his last few albums were considered mediocre to unlistenable by his longtime fans. It would be a big let down if it's true that he won't release albums anymore but I have a feeling hes teasing us and will drop a new album soon, he will probably only make it available 4 purchase on his new website Welcome 2 The Dawn | |

If not releasing a new album, he could at least package together an albums worth of songs that he releases bit by bit and you can configure your own album and artwork, therefore making it effectively the fans choice how it looks and is configured? | |

I'd be quite happy (for starters at least) if he made available all the 'lost' songs he's been "releasing" over the last few years to radio, web and live performance. I know they are'nt generally thought fondly of by the Prince community but i would like to listen to many of them in 320 or higher (and make my mind up then).

Since the concept of an "album" dates back to when music was distributed through physical media with limitations, it wouldn't surprise me if Prince decides to drop that concept if he is moving beyond physical media.
