Well...this funk definitely needs some update...a new vision of sound.

I like Prince songs in all of the diverse genres that he touches upon, some new, some old--just depends on the individual song. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Ahhh, I just finally got what "S into the D.F." means.
And I think someone pointed this out waaaay earlier in this thread, but I can't find it now and didn't understand it at the time.
Scatter to the dance floor ... he says it right before he says "S into the D.F." at one point in the song, so it's not like I really figured anything out per se... just listened a bit more closely.
For some reason, not knowing what this means has been bugging me so I just wanted to share. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

It's a boring jam session.

I like it. It's either just a jam with him scatting some Prince-style paranoia (possibly from another song in the works) or it's its own song that he's extended out into a longer jam. You can tell, because he doesn't get to any lyrics until about halfway through. And then a guitar solo kicks in as it's fading out.
Been missing this kind of groove in a Prince song.
Let's hope he doesn't fuck it up if it ever makes it to a record.

cool, I'd like to hear George Clinton cover this one. See how he loves covers. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Thanks, it was bugging me too! "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

not to be anal, but "s In2 the DF" would then translate as "scatter In2 the dancefloor"
so shouldn't it be "s Un2 the DF" ?

for some reason, I think he wants to say "STFU" but just can't bring himself to do it

Funky I'm happy to know he's found a new muse. [Edited 1/25/13 20:16pm] "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so". Thomas Jefferson

I have to bust the bubble on this one. I've been a P fan since 79' and I have heard good, bad and great songs by Prince. I am not sure how long some of you guys have been listening to him but this "chapters" song you like so much, is not so much at all. To be honest the last few years have been pretty weak to what this man can really produce. I know we may never get another "sign 0 times" but most of the lastest stuff he could have kept to himself. I would much rather dig into that vault and let songs like "grand progression" see the light of day than listen to this stuff that sounds like a walkthrough. I havent heard a new classic in a while now. ok maybe one or 2. Maybe I am just older now spoiled by the Prince who became KING.

Yeah, I hear you... Technically, I think it should be "S 2 the D.F.," right? I'll have to listen to it again. Of course, this is the same man who approved the lyric video of "Screwdriver" to say "Without further adieu," when it clearly should say "Without further ado," so.... He's not exactly a stickler for details anymore. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
