IMO, if someone says they love funk and they don't like this, they're pretending.
I like it to some degree, but I don't love it. Just not original or exciting enough... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time... |

Never been one for jams or "funk." I like good songs, regardless of the style so this doesn't necessarily appeal to me. I'm not gonna bash the dude for it or something, just waiting for some new songs. |

It's just a funk workout, but I'm sure in the larger context of that concert it was awesome. |

Cool squeeky funk vibe - love the funky rhythym guitar squawking up down and around all over the place.
If this is a throwaway, I wish he'd throw away one or two more like this in our direction... |

Oh man cutting off at that rockin' guitar solo....Mr. P, you prick tease.
I'm surprised hearing people not digging the groove. Then again how many locals hate "Act of God," which I actually consider among my favorites of his?
Different ears hear different things apparently. |

d to f..chord changes?
When I first heard it, I assumed it was some kind of musical directive too (ie. chord change, etc...), but now I'm not sure.
I know it sounds like "S into", but could it be "Listen to" - ie. "Listen to the DF"?
DF.... Dr. Funkenberry?
Listen to the Doc?
Just a thought....
Nah...it's much easier then all of that. "S in2 the DF"...as in "Scatter 2 the Dance floor" |

Some people on here don't understand the funk. Remember that James Brown, Parliament and Sly & The family Stone are among his absolute favourites, and they could all repeat a groove for "fifty years" if they wanted to. Funk is all about the groove and locking you in. It's a different language than pop. But it can be combined of course. Prince is not just about writing pop songs like Rasperry Beret, Starfish & Coffee, I could never thake the place of your man etc etc... he is alot more than that. If he wants to take it down with som laid back groovy funk, he'll do that. I respect him for doing that even though he wont satisfy everyone. Atleast most people on a club sized venue can appreciate long jams more than huge stadiums. |

No guitar solo at the end of that meandering, go nowhere borefest.
That was like a crap blowjob with a don't come on my face request.
Arre we supposed to get excited for that? or come back for more? A prince-by-numbers funk jam. Big whoop! Lyrically devoid at this point. Maybe he just can't relate to normality or write songs people can relate to anymore.
Other opinions may differ.

Well written and explained. FINALLY somebody understands funk! This was a jam session and usually a band will play a vamp (a basic groove that a soloist can improvise over) and whether it's Prince, Louis Armstrong, JB, Sly or a local funk band, the intent is to either make dance or listen. Andrew Gouche's bassline is in the tradition of FUNK and Prince's stream-of-consciousness spoken word is parallel to "Mind Power" by James Brown, Gil Scott Heron's music etc. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

Sure they could but i feel especially Sly was more interesting than that, musically, there was a lot more going on than just groove. To an extent JB too, his lyrics were relatable. Prince talks bollocks.
This is no 'Days Of Wild' beater that's for sure. |
