If I were actually there, I'm sure I would have been caught up in the moment.

But I wasn't, and I can only judge what he has released.

There is no singing and nothing even resembling a chorus or a melody. The fact that the band rides a very basic and repetitive funk groove for five minutes that literally goes nowhere and builds to nothing is not worthy of praise. I'm all for Prince having fun. But I'm also all for actual songcraft, of which there is literally zero on display here.

I'm not impressed by it either.

I can understand the reasons why he might feel the need to find some balance between the product that's available for free and something that you intend to sell, but there are thousands and thousands of musicians that are giving away tracks that they've spent a lot of time working on.
