Bob Cavallo talks about this in the commentary on the DVD. He said he asked Prince if it was okay that the song said "Nikki" when the character's name was "Apollonia." He said Prince looked at him like he was an idiot and asked, "Do you think the song should be called 'Darling Apollonia'? "

I always wanted to know where he got that damn hoop earring. His mom is a gatdamn sinner and then he wakes up with big honkin' earring on. (I know a scene was cut there, but still...)

Also...that damn earring was pierced or non-pierced, depending on the scene. Whe he puts it on Apples to begin with, he's screwing the back of the earring to tighten it (like a non-pierced earring). Later, when he picks it up off the basement floor, it has a post and back on it.

I vaguely remember the script had a scene after a Francis L beatdown , he came to her, and she gave him her earring during their talk.

Which brings to mind again, in the released version, Princes mom has nothing to say to him. Ever. And all he says to her is Ma. Its as if they have no engagement with each other. Talk about some Freudian phallic stage trip.
