I dont care if they were free. Im not flying over 1500 miles to stand in line for hours and finally let in at midnight to see a 2 hour show at 2 a.m.
Im old and got responsibilities.
I dont care if they were paying 50 bnes to the audience for attending.
Thats not what its about. Its about "come to PP if you want this" attitude...and not wanting to do remasters unless he has all of his stuff..so looks like those are off the table. Thanks Prince. Thank you much.
and putting things out there via gameplay..and they arent even bootlegs..
yall know what a bootleg is..a bootleg is something unreleased form the 80's..nobody tryna here no unreleased track from 2011...thats not considered a bootleg for dazzze...thats just sone current shit that is on the shelves....a bootleg is something from long ago....
Im tring to get some legacy shit of worth in my hands before I'M THE ONE WHO NEEDS A NEW HIP

Another Hit and Run. Another site for a fast dip into your pocket - before he quickly shuts it down. He's done it before. $50 membership x 25,000 peeps makes him a cool $12.5Mill plus whatever he can grab in merchandise - IF you even get the merchandise....
and how many times in the old days, when the parties at Paisley were FREE did he cancel last minute - after peeps paid for airfare and hotels.
Same sheit / Different People.

I really understand all the frustration...as I'm a bit frustrated myself..especially regarding the music/videos leakage (gameplaying?) fiasco, but 2013 has just begun. Hopefully, as promised by Prince, there are still good things to come...we shall see.
.....I so want to attend a week of events at Paisley Park (or, at least one concert) though! Count me in on that...I'm ready!!!

Personaly I love it all, after being a prince fan scince the late 80's this has re-ignitied my interest I have always followed but for so long have been slightly underwhelmed!
This stunt what ever you want to call it is actually something fun so just go with, I wish you could all just enjoy the fact something is being said to us for once - to much negativity will just drive him silent again. imo

Am I to understand that the "big" news is that Prince has gone from angrily flipping off the broadcast and proclaiming the relationship dead to entertaining the idea of dating again, but still can't see how it'll ever work in the real world? I guess it makes perfect sense that the guy who forbids a solitary journalist from concealing even so much as a single no. 2 might turn a shade of purple way beyond freaky control in the face of what perhaps ends up being the most powerful tool mankind has ever sharpened. These are his children and his incredible hard work (extremely admirable to me), along in part with the other professionals whom I'm guessing would also like to hear what piece of joy they attempted to bring to his table. So it's definitely not my place to put a price on whether or not any of that should be shared in or out of his private residence. I honestly wonder how Prince comes away from this type of activity. More cynical? More upbeat? More hurt? I could be wrong, it happens quite often, but I'd swear there are far more people who value than steal. And some who steal will someday have the money to thankfully and gladly pay. I thought Prince's parodied blackmail was poking fun at himself, not an example of how hard it is for him. Hope I'm wrong.

yes, I wanna know this too.
But I am afraid Prince, once again, -- is making it "too complicated", trying to create hype or whatever.. (seems so).

I can't believe this. I had absolutely zero expectations for this spreecast, none whatsoever, so there was no way I could be disapointed. Or so I thought!
What I didn't expect was negative news, confirmation that we wouldn't be getting stuff. No remasters, no DVD's unless you want to stump up several hundred $'s for flights and hotels to get to PP. A tease of a web site run by fans. Like Mr control freak is ever going to let that happen. It's pissed me off. Only in Prince land!
I think I'm going to become a Belieber instead. At least I'd know what he's doing every second of the day. RIP

and that my friend is why i try to keep a balanced view on P, you just cannot trust or rely on this guy. That is also why it is important to run comparison threads in a 'hey look what P could be doing'. How pissed off must he be looking at the global hype for Bowie. In a matter of days he is number one everywhere on Itunes with preorders, his back catalogue is shifting loads and the world is in love with him. In the meantime we got R&R affair!!!. P, most of your hardcore have grown older, wiser and matured with families, responsibilities etc..give us a break and grow up!.

I'm soooo with you!
I dont get it. Prince seems not to comprehend that DVDs are made for people so they can watch them AT HOME in their living room!!!
Why in the world should one fly over to PP to watch a DVD there??? The "Prince-Cinema" or what....
In what kind of strange world does this guy live please?

I invite you to check Bowie's sales since the early nineties. Low. Very low for such an artist. He will sell more of The Next day because everybody thought he has retired forever. Good publicity for him. Nothing in then years and suddenly bam. But if you think the whole world is in love with Bowie, it means you've got your head stuck deep into your arse cuz the vast majority of people in the world do not give a flying fuck about it. Regarding Prince, I'm certain he does not give a shit like he does not give a shit about my opinion or yours. The only major artist who has managed to sell pretty much constantly well the last 15 years is Springsteen.

Oh please, you replied to his message by contradicting him. If you didn't believe that crap, why repeat it? "Hey I'm not one to gossip but did you hear Prince had a rib removed to..." "That's an old rumor that's been told about numerous artists and it is BS." "Hold on, didn't say I believed it, was just repeating what was said!"

Bullshit. How many times have his albums been repackaged and remastered and rereleased? They aren't doing that when they don't sell again and again.
Bullcrap. Bowie's single release was a major event. Meanwhile Prince's pathetic antics have generated negative publicity.
I suggest you check out the artwork for the Days Of Wild single to see how much Prince cares about someone else's opinion. © Bart Van Hemelen

We've covered this already. Bowie, nothing for ten years, people thought he was dying or something, so new release = major news. A Prince new release is up there with other exciting news like the earth orbits the sun. [Edited 1/10/13 4:00am] RIP

I agree with the person who said I'm old and have responsibilities.
1. I've been a Prince fan since the 80s and am now a family man. I went to many of the London O2 concerts and would go out to Paisley for a Celebration week where you buy a pass in advance and have every night concerts etc if it was all guaranteed and works smoothly. Presell package tickets for the week and keep 10% for sale on the night at the door so you always have a crowd and queue.
2. Fans want new music. I thought the 3rd Eye thing once they printed the C&D letter asking fight or flight was to evoke a response which is exactly what Dr F is asking: Should she keep putting things out after announcing to us she wasn't authorised to or should she stop. This is basically asking fans do we morally accept we'll take stuff if P considers he's losing money by giving his music away free or are we willing to only take what he's releasing officially. Remember his experiment in honour with U Make My Sun Shine? Take it, put it on CD, release it and kick back the profits to P and that didn't work out. So how can he make the most money off his releases without seeming to miss out?
My answer would be the NPGMC model which was fun while it lasted or even the Crystal Ball one. Aside from technical issues and then packaging and shipping issues, pre-selling Crystal Ball and only pressing it once there were X number of orders worked. It guaranteed him sales and income at the price point he wanted and fans had a collectable item they were willing to pay for that was worth something to them. Even the NPGMC memebership with monthly downloads was good and the store was fine. If Chocolate Invasion/Slaughterhouse did get pressed it would've sold. P fans want music and some collect stuff.
I'd like him to pre-sell a limited number of his CDs like he's done in the past (GoldNigga, Crystal Ball) and at a price point that he feels is reasonable and will be fair to fans. He wants to sell a set like Crystall Ball again at $50, I'd buy it. If he only every pressed a limited quantity he could charge more. Yes all this would end up online for free and others would sell copies and pressed versions on auction sites and get top money for them but he'll never stop that and that's not what this is about. Stop trying to change the system and get what you want for your product. Concentrate on saying "I want $12mil for this set so I'll sell only 250K copies at $50". Forget who else is making money once it's online. You can't stop bootlegs. City Lights sets are selling on auction sites for crazy money and people are paying because they want the original bootleg as well as the music. Let them go for it. You sell your product and have it limited and see if fans bite.

Next I'd keep the word out by doing shows. Every year have the Paisley celebration which is a week of P and assoc artistes and experiences like the Rainbow Children workshops/listening sessions and give away a unique CD to attendees only. Another collectable item and reason to play in the park.
Do live shows internationally and promote your club/product there. You will always sell out if the price point is affordable and you'll get paid for the shows and it's marketing for your online business of selling the CDs.
Also have DVD/Blurays of your concerts in limited quantities available for those who attend the shows via sign up to buy a limited edition version to keep. You could charge $50 for this and only sell to those who attended the show via sign up. Why? Because you're building a database of new fans as well as old ones and those who don't buy online but do come to your shows. Know and get to all your fanbase. Limited edition and Out of Print stock will be in demand more once it's sold out. Other people will probably buy, then sell onto others at inflated prices but live with it: you can't stop anyone selling their stuff second hand. You can be smart and try to only sell to those who have already invested in you and your shows.
If there is a fan run website where you sell them content and they distribute it for free, who funds it? Also if you sell your music through a fan run site and the site owner messes up who is liable and answerable to the fans who paid money? They may hate the site owner for messing them about but you'll lose their faith and money and loyalty big time - ref. The NPGMC last year and LotusFlow3r websites. NPGMC could not have promised the CDs and still made money. But because it stated it'd give them as part of the package people got mad. Say people are paying for the downloads and each year have a renewal gift of a CD. U2 do this with their stuff. Join their site for whatever it costs and every year before renewal they have a different membership gift only available to members so they encourage you to renew and get it.
That's my opinion.
New music, sell physical products that become collectable and charge more for them (but no stupid Opus like ideas or prices) and work your fan base. They pay money for your stuff - get what you want for your work but don't go crazy and overcharge because it'll only backfire.
Thank U for the music! | |

But yes i agree, i didn't had expectations, but this is really, really bad...... i thought maybe there was some huge news about the new album.....
But now it looks like it's not even 100 % sure if there will be a new record! I'm not here for shows at Paisley, i don't care. I live in europe, too far away from Paisley. All i want is a NEW album, and a NORMAL tour. and yes, it's sad there wouldn't ben any remasters or dvd's. 2013 will be big? yes maybe in Prince his head, because he is doing shows at Paisley. wtf

Oh for fucks sake Prince this idea is the best U've had in ages! I'm totally going 2 ask my mother if we could fly out to Minny so we could all watch DVD's at Paisley Park. Thats such a reasonable question

The most bootlegged person besides Prince is Springsteen. Springsteen doesn't care about bootlegs. Springsteen tours about 10 times as much as Prince does, so there are at least 10 times as many Springsteen bootlegs out there than Prince bootlegs.
And yet, Springsteen has no problem selling out just about every show he plays.
The lesson? Quit obsessing about bootlegs and just do what you do. If you give the fans what they want, more than enough of them are going to pay for it to make you wealthier beyond your wildest dreams.
You want to put bootleggers out of business? Sell CDs or DVDs of your concerts. Will some fans put them on the internet for others to download? Sure, but at least in this scenario the artist is getting some money, whereas with a bootleg release the artist gets absolutely no money.
Other than that, carry on!

I really think rationalizing with Prince about why he's doing what he does is like rationalizing with a woman who's willing to pay 1,000 dollars for a purse if she has a 9-to-5 job and lives in an apartment.
It's a dead end conversation.
Sometimes, we just have to explain away his stances by admitting he's a douchebag. Healing starts there. Prince is a douchebag.

trueee!!! good example. Springsteen doesn't care about the bootlegs, he tours and he plays the big stadiums a lot. but he also released quite some live dvd's and cd's. and i really like the idea of releasing a dvd or cd at the shows of the shows. Robbie Williams is going to do that with his new tour, directly after the show you can buy the live cd of one of the shows(or the show you are at not sure anymore sorry ) at the merchandise stand.

I wouldn't go to my mate's to watch a dvd so why the fuck anyone would think I would travel to Nowhere, America to watch one is beyond me. Seriously, I've taken a lot of dodgy drugs over the years but they've never made me act like that
