The only reason the topic of remasters even came up was because one of the viewers who was brought into the conversation asked about it. I assume the questioners were selected at random (I certainly was). Dr. Funkenberry said he asked Prince about remasters a year ago and Prince didn't want to talk about it. That is hardly news, good or bad. The point of the Spreecast was to talk about the possibility of a new website and more concerts at Paisley Park.

Look. Did they or did they not state that Prince said he was not concerned about remasters unless he is awarded all of them at once./ Did they say that or did they not?

I ain care about who or how it was brought up..its about the content of the conversation and the information given. I dont care if folks were "hangin on a string" -Loos Ends, if a participant was caught diggin in his nose on webcam, if there was a countdown to ecstasy clock..Im responding to the information received.

Look..Im neglecting writing tx plans for this back n forth reasoning why shit..make it worth it god damn it!

Here is my attempt at a transcript of what was said regarding remasters, starting around the 23-minute mark:

Steve Wask: What’s going on with the remasters? Are we ever going to see the day of that coming? Getting the Sign ‘O’ the Times remastered, Lovesexy remastered, something like that?

Dr. Funkenberry: If you’re asking me personally, I tried to ask Prince about that when we were hanging out in the studio with Andy Allo last year. I asked Prince about the masters and when you get them back, when can we get remasters, and he kind of really cut me off quickly, because I was trying to ask if it’s 30 years or 35 years when he gets the masters back, and he just went, “They should say forever, because that’s what it is, it’s forever.” It seemed like he really didn’t want to discuss it and was frustrated. He doesn’t want to get one master back at a time, he wants them all back, so he can do what he wants with them, you know. So, when we’re going to get new remasters? I’m not really sure on that. This year would be a great start.

Steve: … Sign, extended versions, all that stuff put out. I’ll buy anything. I’ve been collecting the man’s music since I was 6 years old…

Dr. FB: See, and you’re devoted, but for every one of you, there’s going to be 50 to 100 people that are just going to download those masters and the outtakes from the internet without paying him. Now, how do you make sure he gets his money for that without the 50 to 100 people taking it for each person like yourself that buys it.

Steve: Yeah, I understand where he’s coming from, but that’s the problem with today’s technology is, everyone can download anything, there’s no protection anymore, everyone can hack nowadays…

Dr. FB: Right. It makes it harder. I think he wishes there was a new technology out to where to where that can be protected.

Hey Prince. Decide how much you want from your fans. Open a new website and have said fans do a preorder of a CD. If you reach the amount you want, sell them the album. If you don't, don't sell the album. If you are that concerned about getting paid for your work, the folks who would illegally download your music then would no longer matter.

Like was presented earlier..he wants them all back at once and even then he is worried about some folks downloading them instead of purchasing them ala napster days etc? So he wont release them?

It sounds like he is just frustrated with the issue constantly coming up. Right now, he seems to be heading into a new productive period with Superconductor and some of the other new material we've seen lately. He wants to get that out to the fans. Instead, we're mainly interested in stuff he did 30 years ago. It's like when the former Beatles were trying to have solo careers in the 1970s and all anyone wanted to ask about was a possible Beatles reunion.

The issue will constantly come up to his grave. He can make money and lots of it without making money on every single inch of any and everything he creates. If he can let go of this OCD he'd be a lot happier and richer.

Prince told the Peach & Black Podcast . He has already started to get his Masters back. eye think he had just got Dirty Mind Or Controversy by then. So this year is 1999 & next year is the mega Purple Rain. So why should he wait 4 them all? Just put what he has now out. Life is too short...But I guess he would get a better deal with Purple Rain included. Since that is the "Master" of The "MasterPieces" giggle

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

RD you are overreacting to this. First off, it was Dr FB's relaying a conversation he had and "his feelings" about what Prince intended or interepreted. By no means did Dr. FB represent this as Prince's official decision that there will never be masters... just that AT THAT TIME he did not want to have that discussion.

This wasn't as newsbreaking as I think you're making it out to be.

I'm not saying masters are just around the corner, but nothing said last night suggested to me any change positive or negative on the issue. Just that Prince did not want to have that conversation.

I mean, with all due respect to Dr. FB, whom I know personally and have no beef with, why were people tuning into this thing and asking questions like "when will we get remasters" as though Dr FB is Prince's official spokesperson.

This was a "spreecast" conversation between two fans, NOT a press conference. I don't know why people are tripping on this thing.

Dont give me that shit. Every artist got remasters..decades ago. It isnt out of the ordinary or unreasonable for remasters to be a topic of main discussion in 2013.

I am more disappointed that it looks like we are not going to get any live DVDs !!!!!!

Re-masters - well yeah, would be nice but at least we have heard the songs originally -

DVDs would have been so much nicer because many people have never had a chance to even see Prince live due to their location or finances -

to not release a live DVD after so many years is a real slap in the face -

other artists release concerts after their gigs are finished and have no beef with it -

so why should Prince be so uptight over it?

He rathers we look at bootleg videos instead of his work in good quality and sound????????? Which he can edit and approve of?

He is so insecure?

Daft if you ask me.

That is what has rattled my chain the most over the whole thing.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I think it was reasonable to expect some news from this, given the buildup with the "3rdeyegirl" stunt and the thank-you wishes on Dr. FB's webpage. And we did get some news, or at least rumors, about Paisley Park concerts and a possible new website. But I can't imagine why anyone would tune into it expecting to learn the release date for a deluxe edition of Sign 'O' The Times.

The best part about remastered re-releases is usually the packaging.

I just bought a Duran Duran - Notorious remasters boxset with all the B-sides, Ext versions, and a LIVE CD and DVD!!!

And at $30 a pop, its the best thing Ive bought in years!

Everything in it has been released previously on vinyl and vhs, but I havent seen or heard most of them in a long time because of this very reason!

Much like I havent heard the America 12" ext ver in years. grrr

Sure I can go online and buy a bootleg that has all the 12" mixes that were release by P during his WB years, but I refuse to. Or I could sit at home and search all night for someones best attempt of ripping from vinyl, but I cant be arsed.

But you release it through the proper channels, and I'd make a HUGE effort of buying it as soon as it comes out.!

FFS, the Rolling Stones just released their 600th Best Of packeage, and people are still buying it!

I dont think the RS's management are stupid enough to do this at a loss. So why do they bother with these re-releases!? Maybe P should ask they're management and find out why!?

Oh... and Prince..... you're a dickhead.

I want ALL of it. I want remasters. I want new stuff. I want vault stuff. I want DVDs.

I WANT to pay for all of this. But, I want physical copies. CDs. LPs. DVDs. Blurays.

I'll pay for high quality downloads, if that's the only format he puts it out in, but I'll pay a premium price for physical copies.

I just paid like $16 for the new CD single, even though I already listened to an "illegal" digital copy and even though I'm not impressed with the remixes.

I'm a sucker for a disc I can bring home, it's the quickest way into my wallet.

cool

Sure I can go online and buy a bootleg that has all the 12" mixes that were release by P during his WB years, but I refuse to. Or I could sit at home and search all night for someones best attempt of ripping from vinyl, but I cant be arsed.

smile

If you have enought knowledge to get online, why the hell would you buy a bootleg?

RIP sad
